The Mole is an American reality competition television series produced by Stone Stanley Entertainment (first 4 seasons) and Stone & Co. Entertainment (Season 5), in which the contestants work as a group to add money to a pot that only one of them will eventually win.
Among the contestants is one person who has been designated "the Mole" by the producers and is tasked with sabotaging the group's money-making efforts. At the end of each episode, the contestant who knows the least about who the mole is, as decided by the results of a quiz, is eliminated from the game.
The series aired in the USA on ABC from 9 January, 2001 to 11 August, 2008. There are 45 hour-long episodes in the series.
The Mole premiered in South Africa on M-Net on Thursday 21 June 2001, at 19h35. Only the first season aired in South Africa, after which the show was dropped.
Synopsis
It's Survivor meets Alias in this reality show which finds a double agent lurking among the competitors.
The Mole finds a group of reality show contestants vying against each other for a cash prize. They must work together to complete a variety of mental and physical missions in order to build up the size of the cash prize.
Every successfully completed mission means a set amount of cash is added to the pot, so the contestants must combine brain-power, physical strength and teamwork in order to increase the final amount.
There is a twist. One of the contestants is not who they seem. They are a Mole, placed among the contestants to sabotage the missions.
It is up to the contestants to work out who the Mole is. They and the audience must read the clues and determine who is the saboteur.
Each week the contestant who knows the least about the identity of the Mole is eliminated until only three remain.
The contestant who discovers the Mole's identity at the end of the show is the one who wins the final cash prize.
