Phola! is a South African documentary television series documenting average young South Africans' triumphs and tribulations as they try to navigate their way through modern South African life.
This takes into account the challenges they face in South Africa, in particular the socio-economic issues they grapple with in their daily lives.
The show features young people who faced challenges in life but rose above all circumstances and made a success of their lives. These include:
Mirriam Ngomani (model and businesswoman)
Neftaly Malatjie (social entrepreneur)
Thatiso Dube (designer and owner of Galaxy Boys)
Zee Nxumalo (young business entrepreneur)
Farah Fortune (businesswoman and publicist)
Phola! is produced and directed by Dudu Mkhize. Mokopi Shale is the series producer.
Broadcast Notes
The first season premiered on SABC1 on Wednesday 11 November 2015, at 18h00. After 13 episodes on 3 February, 2016) it went on hiatus, repeating the first 13 episodes mid-year, on Mondays. Season 1 resumed with Episode 14 on Monday 22 August 2016, at 18h00.
