Authentiek is a South African docu-reality travel series in which two people from very different worlds go on a quest to experience a sense of adventure and explore the meaning of living an authentic life beyond your limitations.
Having been left paralysed from the waist down after a motorcycle accident, popular Afrikaans singer Mathys Roets is willing to try anything new as he embodies the true meaning of living beyond limits.
He is joined by Portia Moemedi (first season only) and together they encourage each other, tease each other and even challenge each other to go further. The show follows their emotions and thoughts as they tell their own story of these experiences.
The journey begins when the hosts first meet in a coffee shop to discuss their lives in anticipation of what is to come.
For their first excursion, they decide to go for a dive, something neither has attempted before. They decide to go for lessons in preparation for the dive of several metres deep.
The trip to this adventure is colourful as the duo decide to take a detour to a zip line between the koppies of Magaliesburg before continuing their diving trip. There are twists and turns in their first adventure as they discover a whole new world in the deep waters.
Season 1 is produced by ATTV and executive produced by Thabo Pitso and Phuti Nakene (Season 1) and Phuti Nakene (Season 2). The series is directed by Matthew Mulholland (Season 1) and Stefan Nieuwoudt (Season 2) and the theme music is by Bernie Miller.
