Superstars of Dance is an American reality competition television series produced by Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe which features dance routines from eight different countries on six continents, all competing for for the grand prize - a trophy.
The series aired in the USA on NBC from 4-26 January, 2009. The network declined to renew it for a second season. There are five hour-long episodes in the series.
The series premiered in South Africa on M-Net on Sunday 26 July 2009, at 17h00. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.
Superstars of Dance premiered on DStv's M-Net HD channel on Thursday 26 November 2009, at 18h00. New episodes air weekly.
Synopsis
Superstars of Dance, hosted by Michael Flatley, is an international dance competition led by executive producers Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Fuller, two of the masterminds behind American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance.
The series pits the masters of various dance genres from eight countries against each other. It is in equal parts sporting event, rock concert and artistic exhibition.
Eight countries participate in the competition with each team comprised of two soloists, one duo and one larger group. Viewers will get to know the competitors and the coaches through the trials and tribulations, both behind the scenes and on the stage.
The stakes are high for these artists, as they are not only representing themselves, but also their dance form and their entire nation.
