Fear Factor UK is a British stunt/dare reality game show based on the original Dutch version Now or Neverland and produced by Endemol in which each week two teams of three friends battle it out over a series of the tough stunts to win £20,000 worth of cash prizes.
The series aired in the UK on Sky One from 3 September, 2002 to 11 December, 2003. There are 26 hour-long episodes in two seasons.
Fear Factor UK premiered in South Africa on TopTV's Fox FX channel on Saturday 1 October 2011, at 20h30. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 13 episodes in the first season.
Synopsis
UK version of the show where facing up to your worst fears can net big money...
In each pulse-racing Fear Factor episode, contestants recruited across the country battle in extreme stunts. These stunts are designed to challenge the contestants both physically and mentally.
If a player is too afraid to complete or fails a stunt, the player is eliminated. If they succeed, they are one step closer to the grand prize...
The British version features a team format and the first two rounds are for "banking" prize money. The first round gives £3,000 for each of the best four individual performances, which with three people on each team means a team can bank up to £9,000.
In the second round, two people from each team take part (selected by the other team) - it's a straight pass-or-fail round, and each success is worth another £3,000.
The team that wins the final stunt takes home what they've banked plus £5,000, for a total of £20,000. It is therefore possible for a team to go into the final round having banked nothing at all, but still go home the winners, albeit with only the minimum £5,000 to share between them.
The first season of Fear Factor UK was filmed in Cape Town, South Africa. The second season was filmed in Buenos Aires, Brazil.
