The Sing-Off SA is a South African version of the American television singing competition in which a cappella groups are chosen by audition and advanced in the competition based on judges' eliminations until the finale, where the winners are determined by viewer votes.
There's no lip-synching, back-up bands or safety net. One group is eliminated every week during this one-of-a-kind battle of voices that leads up to a live finale - where viewers decide the winner.
The Sing-Off SA features 10 South African a cappella groups going head to head over the course of nine weeks. These 10 groups were drawn from all over South Africa with auditions having taken place in Johannesburg, Polokwane, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban.
The first leg of the auditions kicked off at The Soweto Hotel in Kliptown on Saturday 14 March, 2015 with Nolly Meje providing links, conducting interviews with groups of hopefuls attending the auditioning and doing general field reporting at the event.
The winning group gets selected by the public during a star-studded live finale, and walks away with a R250,000 cash prize and a Sony recording contract.
The show is hosted by Noluthando "Nolly" Meje. The selection panel who decided the Top 10 finalists that made it to the show were Relebogile Mabotja and Bradley Willams. Mabotja is also the musical director.
The judges are HHP, Zakes Bantwini and Zolani Mahola.
The series producer is Bruce Townsend and the series director Phybla Dlamini. The Sing-Off is a format licensed by Sony Pictures Television and is produced locally by AMPN.
