Made in Africa is a South African reality competition television series hosted by Nandi Madida in which some of Africa's most talented fashion designers go head to head to create new pieces in weekly eliminations.
The African fashion industry has boomed in the past decade, with fashion designers from the continent blowing up catwalks across the world with their bold prints, bright colours and unfettered creativity.
In this series, BET celebrates design from across Mother Africa where emerging designers battle it out to be a cut above the rest.
The series features a panel (the host and key fashion industry players) discussing specific fashion topics that relate to a selected theme in each episode. The panel is made up of celebrities and some of the most influential fashion industry experts on the African continent.
Each episode also profiles two emerging fashion designers selected from across the African continent who go head-to-head in that episode to design and construct a look based on a selected theme for that episode.
A total of 18 young and emerging fashion designers will be profiled at the end of the series with a winner of each episode going away with fabric worth R1,000.
The winning designer will walk away with a retail contract as well as other prizes to the value of up to R500,000.
Made in Africa was created by Awesome Advertising and is a partnership between BET, the KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) and the KZN Film Commission.
