Thiba is a South African educational docu-drama miniseries based on the state and effects of tuberculosis in South Africa in rural, urban and suburban areas.
The series looks at people's circumstances like poverty, unemployment, being uneducated, HIV and more. The main objective is drawing the audience's attention to the illness, reiterating the key objectives:
Prevention is better than cure in most illnesses, but the key objectives when educating a nation about a disease is to show that it does not discriminate and everybody can be a victim - rich or poor.
Thiba is a word that is common across all our official languages that means: Stop, Prevent, Bring to a Halt.
The series uses real life diagnosis and treatment actions as well as contact centre information so the public can use the information in their awareness of TB by weaving factual information within the series.
Thiba is based on a concept by 178 Pictures, who also produced the series. Zakhile Dakile is the executive producer; the series producer is Tracey Martin. The first episode was directed by Poland Dakile. The music is by Lerato Finiza, Lalela Music and Slam Productions Inc.
