Description

The MTV Movie Awards is an American film awards show presented annually on MTV (Music Television). It also contains movie parodies that use official movie footage, with hosts and other celebrities and music performances.

The first awards ceremony was in 1992, with Dennis Miller as host.

The 2010 MTV Movie Awards (the 19th edition) aired in South Africa live on DStv's MTV channel on Monday 7 June at 03h00, with a delayed broadcast on MTVbase on Monday 7 June, at 21h00.

About the Awards

The MTV Movie Awards show is the kind of place where Jim Carrey becomes Jim Morrison, Will Ferrell makes out with Sacha Baron Cohen and Sarah Silverman tears Paris Hilton to shreds as the whole world watches.

It's the kind of place where Greg Brady makes out with Carol Brady. His mom. Yeah. Anything goes.

And anything is sure to go - look for re-enactments of mind-blowing Movie Awards moments, ridiculous categories, plenty of ways to participate online and, of course, an auditorium loaded with stars behaving badly.

Unlike all the other boring awards shows, the viewers decide who takes home the awards.

The nominees are decided by a special panel at Tenth Planet Productions, the production company headed by Joel Gallen, who also created the MTV Movie Awards. Winners are decided by the general public.

Voting is done through MTV's official website through a special Movie Awards link.

2010 MTV Movie Awards

Word of advice: Have your sunglasses nearby when you tune-in to the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. You may be blinded by the massive amounts of gold given out to the winners. No, you won't be seeing bling ... but instead the ever so coveted Golden Popcorn.

And who's going to be the ringmaster of this bright, star-studded happening? Comedy badass Aziz Ansari of Human Giant fame!

You've seen him everywhere: opposite WTF-lady Amy Poehler on Parks and Recreation (where Aziz turned his Roomba into a DJ); offending and cursing up a storm while doing standup on his Comedy Central special Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening; Scrubs; Reno 911!; Flight of the Conchords ... seriously, the guy's popped up all over the comedy scene.

Aziz'll keep you laughing with his own brand of jokes in between all the awards. Maybe he even picked up a few tips from his Funny People co-star (and last year's Movie Awards host) Andy Samberg.

He also has ties to raunchy VMA MC Russell Brand, who he'll appear with in the upcoming movie Get Him to the Greek. Maybe he'll even take a cue from his The Rocker costar Rainn Wilson and wear his birthday suit to meet Megan Fox.

With all his MTV ties, he'll definitely be a worthy Movie Awards host.

The awards will be airing live from Los Angeles, California. That's right; the town will be painted red ... including the carpets which will be full of A-list presenters, performers and the biggest names in the industry.

Will Eminem show his face again after being bum-barded by Brüno at last year's show? Will Best Kiss veterans Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson arrive together?

And who will be the scene stealer for the Best WTF Moment that your favorite Baby Mama, Amy Poehler, snagged in 2009 for her moving performance of peeing in a sink? (Oh yes, that happened).

It's in your hands ... literally.

There will indeed be lights, cameras and lots of action. You don't want to miss the most talked about jaw dropping moments you know you will be discussing at the water cooler and you won't be talking about if Best Male Performance hopeful Zac Efron parted his hair to the right or the left. There will be BIG moments, people.

Popcorn required ... gold optional.
