Synopsis
There is an elusive cousin of ours that is the smallest and most agile of all the apes.
As beautiful in appearance as they are unique, gibbons can be found clothed in either blonde, brown, grey or black. With a life dedicated to one partner, the enigmatic gibbon is not only the least known ape; it is also quite possibly the most delightful.
Set against the stunning and magical backdrop of the Indonesian rainforest, this is an intimate portrait of the unique pressures faced by gibbons in Borneo and Sumatra, presented through the eyes of the filmmaker.
It is a story of survival and hope for the future, represented by the reintroduction back to the wild of a pair of pioneering gibbon characters.
Gibbons: Back in the Swing chronicles the day-to-day work that goes into the rehabilitation process and highlights the extraordinary relationships that exist between the gibbons and their carers, indigenous people committed to the survival of the species.
