Clash of the Choirs is an American reality talent contest mini-series based on an idea from the Swedish singer Caroline af Ugglas and produced by BBC Worldwide which is a multi-city bragging rights competition between 20-person choirs assembled in the hometowns of the recording artists that support them.
The series aired in the USA on NBC from 17-20 December, 2007. There are seven hour-long episodes in one season.
The series originally aired in South Africa on M-Net from 31 August to 12 October, 2008, on Sundays at 17h00. It later aired on SABC2. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.
Clash of the Choirs premiered on SABC2 on Sunday 31 October 2010, at 20h00. New episodes broadcast weekly.
Synopsis
Clash of the Choirs has tapped five musical superstars - Michael Bolton, Patti LaBelle, Nick Lachey, Kelly Rowland and Blake Shelton - to embark on a musical challenge as they return to their hometowns to assemble an amateur choir and prepare them to compete live in studio for the title of America's best choir.
The show features music genres ranging from current pop hits to holiday classics. The choir hopefuls are judged each night by viewers watching at home.
The winning choir wins $250,000 and the remaining choirs are each given $50,000.
