Episode 1: Pilot
From the usual to the unknown, from the past to the future – full of hopes and dreams, the three women begin their different journeys.
An ambitious, determined law student, the oppressed, torn young rural wife and the vivacious, sexy and rebellious modern young woman face different challenges that force them to make life-changing decisions.
This is the beginning of a promise of a better life for Lefika, Nontobeko and Yoliswa as we watch them trying to shut the door to their past and allowing the future to seep in.
Episode 2: Acceptance
The girls are now sharing a flat. Lefika's ex-mother-in-law dies and her ex-husband comes knocking wanting her to be there with him.
Lefika is caught between anger and joy in knowing the woman who made her life a misery is dead but died too early before she could see her success.
They all go to the funeral. Nontobeko collapses and it is discovered she has a tumor in her womb from having given birth at a young age. Yoliswa's lover's wife pitches up and she wants her to stay away from her husband.
Yoliswa has another visit from her mother who's come to tell her she's divorcing her father and cutting her out of her life as well. Yoliswa tells her mother that all she's ever wanted from her was support and knowing she was behind her.
When her mother leaves, she gets a razor and slowly watches as the blood flows out of her wrist.
Lefika comes back with her graduation gown to fetch Nonto from the hospital. Lefika invites Nonto's doctor and he accepts. Nonto is falling in love.
Nonto's son comes looking for her and he's turned away by her. She blames him for the tumor.
When Mvuthuluka comes looking for Lefika, he finds Yoliswa who's vulnerable and in need of comfort.
Episode 3: Exhale
It's the day of Lefika's graduation. Mvuthuluka her ex-husband pitches up to congratulate her and she reveals to him that she was never barren - she had tests done.
Lefika begs Nkanyiso (Nonto's son) to give his mother time as she's going through hard time. Jeff (Yoliswa's married lover) comes knocking begging her to take him back. Nonto's doctor pays her a visit and there's an attraction.
Lefika realizes that her ex-husband still has a strong hold on her and that there's a part of her that still wants him after all she's been through.
Nonto finally admits that she's been angry and feels robbed of her childhood and that being forced to marry and have a child was no different from being raped – her and the son share an emotional moment.
Yoliswa is sick and tired of men who only see her as a trophy. She has more to her than just her body. She's tired of being abused only to receive gifts from her lovers to kiss the pain better.
She cuts herself again and again until the emotions get the better of her.
Episode 4: Reconciling
Yoliswa's father comes knocking, asking for forgiveness. Nonto's son comes knocking again and this time she opens the door. Lefika tells Mvuthuluka she's not able to forgive him and his family.
Yoliswa is caught cutting herself again by Nonto and she reveals that she doesn't feel beautiful; she has given her body to so many men that she's numb and has a void. Both women open up to each other.
Nonto faces her constant struggle with being a fat woman. Now that she's made peace with her son, nothing else matters.
When Jeff comes knocking for Yoliswa, she doesn't open the door and he eventually walks away. When Yoli's mother comes knocking she only opens the door half way and tells her mother that it's not that she doesn't want to open the door but today is just not a good day.
Nonto and the doctor share a loving moment. Lefika tells Nonto she doesn't want to be angry anymore, but she's scared if she lets go of her anger, men would start taking advantage once again.
They all see what they've been through and how they still stayed strong.
