Season 1

Dance Your Butt Off is a South African reality competition television series based on the American show Dance Your Ass Off in which overweight contestants are paired with professional dancers and compete in weekly dancing challenges, whilst simultaneously losing weight.

The series premiered on SABC1 on Tuesday 12 October 2010, at 23h00 (it was scheduled to start at 18h30 but the channel was unable to broadcast it due to technical problems). See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.

The first season aired on SABC1 from 12 October, 2010 to 5 April, 2011, on Tuesdays at 18h30. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 26 episodes in the first season.

Season 1 was won by Nkosana Bembe, who lost 29.6kg on the show.

Season 1

Overweight South Africans will be shaking their booties in a bid to shed kilos during SABC1's reality dance show, Dance Your Butt Off.

The local version of the hit American series Dance Your Ass Off sees porky competitors paired with professional dancers in a format that's unlike any other.

Not only do the contestants have to impress the panel of judges, the live studio audience and the viewers with their dancefloor moves in a variety of genres – their overall performance each week is also based on how much weight they've lost.

Diet meets dance as full-figured participants are required to lose weight through proper nutrition and then have to shake and rattle their rolls in front of the nation.

The dance scores are combined with the weight loss, and each week the "loser" with the lowest score is sent home.

The show is hosted by Relebogile "Lebo" Mabotja and the judges are choreographer/dancer Somizi Mhlongo, DJ and TV personality DJ Sbu Leope (first season only), and actress/dance instructor Khabonina Qubeka.
