Season 1
Shine is a South African reality singing competition produced by Urban Brew Studios in which contestants from around the country audition to compete in weekly eliminations for the chance to win a two-record recording deal with a gospel label.
The series premiered on DStv's ONE Gospel channel on 8 August, 2010. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times.
Season 1 aired on ONE Gospel from 8 August to 28 November, 2010, on Sundays at 18h00. New episodes broadcast weekly. There are 17 episodes in the first season.
Season 1
Join Shine presenter Zanele Mbokazi as she travels to four regions across South Africa to find the ultimate winner. She is joined by the Shine judges: Lionel Petersen, Deborah Fraser, Neville D and Abe Sibiya.
The judges choose two finalists from each region (12 in total) who travel to the ONE Gospel studios in Jozi to participate in the knockout rounds.
Performers then try to impress in performance shows on Sundays - they need to impress the judges and studio audience to stay in the competition.
Three finalists are eliminated at the end of each performance episode and in the final episode, judges and the studio audience vote for the overall winner from the last remaining three, as they compete for the grand prize: a two-record album deal and the chance to shine.
The regional episodes also feature the most beautiful sights and sounds from across the region giving viewers at home an opportunity to explore and discover our beautiful country from the comfort of their homes.
The first season was won by Peter Lengweng, who won a two-year record deal from Southstone Records and released his debut album, entitled "Igama Elisha", in July 2011.
