Synopsis
For the first time ever in the territory and on television, Comedy Central honours Kagiso Lediga with the televised premiere of his one man show, Kagiso Lediga: In A Suit.
In 2012, Lediga performed his first ever one man show aptly entitled Kagiso Lediga – In A Suit; a fusion of his best work from over a decade of performing and current material relevant to the times. The show was a tour de force – selling out houses in Johannesburg, Durban and Soweto.
Lediga's talent and ability can easily be confirmed by an exhaustive trail of achievements and accolades. Testament of this is the fact that he has graced the stages of all the biggest comedy events in South Africa including the Cape Town International Comedy Festival where he won the People's Choice Award in the company of acclaimed comedians from all over the world.
Other comedy events Lediga has performed at include Laugh Out Loud, Comedy Blackout, Kingsize Heavyweight Comedy Jams, Blacks Only, Freshest Comedy Festival, Pure Monate Comedy Jam, and the Let Durban Laugh Festival.
After producing the Pure Monate Show, Lediga and co-executive producer Loyiso Gola put together satirical news show Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola on e.tv and the eNews Channel.
Two years later this show can only be described as a ground-breaking success. Going into its sixth season in 2013, the show pulls in about two million viewers every week. Lediga is also now directing the TV show.
His successful foray in TV led to Lediga's involvement in films. Following the success of the hit movie Bunny Chow - which he produced and starred as the lead actor - Lediga once again found himself in the headlines.
His second feature film, Blitz Patrollie, featured an all star cast that included David Kau, Joey Rasdien, Chris Forrest, David Kibuuka, Mel Miller, Tats Nkonzo, Tol A$$ Mo and Roni Modilmola.
Adding another huge feather to his cap, Lediga was selected as an international judge for the Emmy Awards, a massive accomplishment and endorsement, that proved his growing stature as a talented producer worldwide.
In 2013, Kagiso Lediga is recognized as one of the country's headlining comedy and screen acts. If there was such a thing as a SA Comedy Hall of Fame, it is Lediga's achievements thus far that would entrench his position in it.
The executive producers of the comey special were Kagiso Lediga and Takunda Bimha and was directed by Andrew Wessels.
