Season 1
What's Behind the Wall? is a South African television game show based on a format created by Big Gamble and Erwan Breuil and produced by Endemol South Africa and hosted by Thato Molamu which tests the contestants' general knowledge of historical, sports or current events hidden behind the wall, unlocking a picture of each event, brick-by-brick, and banking money along the way.
In every episode of What's Behind the Wall?, four contestants are challenged to discover the historical, sports or current events hidden behind the wall. The wall consists of 14 bricks - two of the bricks are elimination bricks and 12 give the contestants a chance to bank the money.
In the game the contestants unlock a picture of a historic event, brick-by-brick. Each brick has a theme that appears on the screen and reveals a question.
They are given four possible answers and if they answer correctly, the brick will in turn reveal a part of a picture and add money to the contestant's banked cash. The quicker they answer the question the more money they stand to bank.
Only the contestant with the most banked cash makes it to the final round to guess the historic image imbedded in the bricks and claim their banked cash. The three remaining contestants lose all their earnings.
The host takes control, facilitating the game and making sure that he is in sync with the playful style and comic elements of the questions. He constantly communicates with the voice of the Wall as the clues are revealed, poking fun at contestants and creating a more relaxed interaction.
