Season 1
Onse Kasi (Our Township) is a South African television comedy-drama series which follows a white, middle-class Afrikaans family who are forced to move into a black township after falling on hard times.
The plot of the series centres on the Vissers and their financial predicament, which ultimately leaves them displaced.
Patriarch Danie Visser played by Deon Coetzee, matriarch Marina Visser played by Heidi Mollentze, Charl Visser played by Louis Auret and Dorret Visser played by Izel Bezuidenhout make up this modern-day, middle-class Afrikaans family.
When the Vissers' suburban house in Witpoortjie is repossessed, an angel in disguise comes to their rescue and offers them a new beginning.
Danie's secret comes to light when a bad investment and poor money management robs him and his loved ones of their beloved picket-fence home.
The family's misfortune is a blessing to razor-sharp counsellor Nomusa (Meme Ditshego), who offers them shelter and a brand new start in a nearby township.
The family, who have no choice, must set aside their reservations, and find new means of survival.
In our country's dark times, Onse Kasi tells a story of hope beyond despair.
When the family becomes a part of a community, they learn that across class, race and gender, our similarities outweigh our differences.
Through drama and laughter, Onse Kasi intends to bring healing and learning to audiences who have suffered at the hands of defeat.
Onse Kasi is based on a concept created by Doctor Khasu and Lesibana Legare and produced for SABC2 by SQ Productions.
The executive producer is Disemelo Makhanda and the directors are Jaun de Jager and Michael Sebonego.
The head writer is Nomawonga Khumalo, leading a writing team including Doctor Khasu, Disemelo Makhanda, Onthatile Matshidiso, Ashley Taylor, Kalumbu Kapisa, Jurgen Hellberg and Jaun de Jager.
