Crossing Lines is an English-language French and German television series created by Edward Allen Bernero and Rola Bauer. The first season premiered on June 9, 2013 at the screening for the Opening Ceremonies of the 53rd edition of the Festival de Télévision de Monte-Carlo, marking the first time the festival opened with a television series.
The series taps into the charter of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate cross-border crimes and ultimately bring global criminals to justice. It is set in the world's most exotic locales, while the elite team of eager cops work to solve the most notorious international crimes.
The Crossing Lines team is made up of five international cops, headed by Captain Louis Daniel, and comprises individuals who have little in common and who must learn to live and work under the most dangerous and potentially deadly conditions.
In the first season viewers were introduced to former NYPD officer Carl Hickman whose life has fallen apart after he was injured on the job; he has become addicted to morphine and is working as a garbage collector at a carnival in the Netherlands.
He is recruited to join the International Criminal Court's special crime unit. Based in The Hague, it investigates a variety of crimes that cross international boundaries.
The unit includes an anti-mafia covert specialist from Italy, a tech specialist from Germany, a crimes analyst from France, and a weapons specialist and tactical expert from Northern Ireland.
Crossing Lines is produced by Tandem Communications in association with Bernero Productions in coproduction with TF1 Production and in association with Sony Pictures Television Networks. Edward Allen Bernero (Criminal Minds), Rola Bauer (The Pillars of the Earth), Jonas Bauer (The Company) and Tim Halkin (Labyrinth) serve as executive producers.
