Season 2
The second season of Strictly Come Dancing premiered on SABC2 on Saturday 5 August, 2006 at 20h00.
In the second season eight new South African celebrities coupled up with their own patient, professional dancers and attempted to win the ballroom dancing showdown.
Celebrities for the season included soapie actors, a kwaito muso, a handyman, a beauty queen, a radio jock and a soccer star.
They were:
Babalwa Mneno (model)
Dingaan Mokebe (actor)
Freedom Hadebe (actor)
Grethe Fox (actress)
Jeannie D (radio DJ, television presenter)
Mark Fish (former soccer player)
Riaan Venter (television handyman)
Tamara Dey (kwaito-pop star)
Their dance skills were put to test in front of the same four strict judges from Season One and every Saturday night, for the duration of the show, they strutted their stuff in front of a live studio audience.
Once more the the judges score was combined with votes from viewers to determine who went home and who became the dance champion.
Ultimately it came down to 7de Laan actor Freedom Hadebe and his partner Mary Martin against television handyman Riaan Venter and his partner Hayley Hammond.
On Saturday 23 September, 2006, Riaan Venter and Hayley Hammond won the show.
The musicians in the second season were: Keith Hutchinson, Randal Skippers, Concord Nkabinde, David Klassen, Alistair Coakley, Bez Roberts, Sydney Minisi, Godfrey Mgcina and Adam Howard.
The vocalists for the season included Innocent Modiba, Nonhlanhla Mdluli and Idols runner-up Brandon October.
