Season 4
The Comedy Central Roast of AKA is the fourth local iteration of the international format, with previous Roastees being Steve Hofmeyr, Kenny Kunene and Somizi Mhlongo.
The Fela in Versace and Baddest performer has opened for artists such as Snoop Dogg, Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar. Now he is about to be baked, boiled and roasted before your eyes.
Prominent, larger-than-life and ready for trouble, the maestro of subliminals and in your face diss-tracks is presenting himself before the firing squad.
Can he keep his composure? Will his freestyle flow save him from getting burnt?
No umbrella necessary, because the panellists from across Africa's entertainment world will not be holding back on throwing shade at the man that is not one to shy away from fiery one-liners.
The Roastmaster this year is Pearl Thusi, who heads up "The Roast Squad":
Davido
Francois van Coke
Joey Rasdien
Mark Fish
Moonchild Sanelly
Moshe Ndiki
Nina Hastie
Papa Penny
A ninth celebrity - Pierre van Pletzen - was announced as a Roaster, but subsequently withdrew "due to unforseen circumstances".
The roast format sees a panel assemble to "roast" each other before getting to the Roastee. Filming of the Comedy Central Roast of AKA was open to the public and took place on Thursday 21 February at The Teatro at Montecasino in Johannesburg.
The head writer for the Roast was Meren Reddy, heading a team consisting of Schalk Bezuidenhout, Gilli Apter, Mojak Lehoko, Byron Abrahams, Matt Besseling, Mo Mothebe, Lihle Msimang, Dillan Oliphant, Noko Moswete, Keenan Cerff and Sipho Muchindu.
The Comedy Central Roast is a production of MTV Networks Africa (Pty) Ltd trading as Viacom International Media Networks Africa.
