Synopsis

Have you ever wondered how massive city skyscrapers are demolished? How is solid rock turned into a beautiful, smooth pool table? What are car tyres made from and exactly why are plasma TV screens flat?

From armoured cars to the world's smelliest cheese, come explore the fascinating world of stuff in an all-new season of How Do They Do It?.

Eating, drinking, driving and flying – these are all activities that we carry out without giving them a second thought.

But have you ever wondered what exactly goes into your teabag and how it got there? And how exactly does an airport handle hundreds of thousands of items of luggage each day?

Every day we come into contact with technology, be it in the bathroom, in the car or on the golf course.

How Do They Do It? takes a look at how things work and focuses on some of the most amazing examples of everyday objects, including the world’s fastest elevator and the most expensive chocolate money can buy.

Season 4 Synopsis

How Do They Do It? returns for it's fourth season to further investigate how people take for granted many of the objects that make up the modern world - mobile phones, sunglasses, concrete, pencils, railway tracks, trainers, tyres...even water.

These simple things are often the products of the most extraordinary, highly sophisticated engineering and production processes.

As the modern world becomes progressively automated and mechanised, we grow further removed from the way things are made and how things are done.

How Do They Do It? reveals how our comfortable, modern way of life relies on the problem-solving genius of engineers and the vision of industrial designers who are constantly striving to make things better.

Each segment in How Do They Do It? starts with something very familiar, but then transports us to somewhere quite out of the ordinary.

Each story takes us behind the scenes to show how to do the things and make the things that form the modern world. Each episode reveals the hidden stories behind our everyday lives.
