Season 5
The fifth edition of Big Brother Africa airs 24/7 for 91 days on DStv Channel 198, which can be accessed by DStv Premium and Compact subscribers. This year the show is an All-Stars version, featuring contestants from past seasons.
The new season is officially called Big Brother All Stars and, according to M-Net, will feature "some of the most unforgettable, outspoken, entertaining housemates of previous editions".
Once again the prize money is US$200,000 and the show will be aired in over 40 countries across the continent.
M-Net decided on an all stars version to save procution costs, which were spent instead on new technology. One technological change already in place is that this year DStv channel 198 will feature two television feeds. There will be two streams of video and audio coming out of the house and viewers can pick the one that they wish to watch.
Nigerian television and radio star I.K. Osakioduwa will return to the Big Brother stage for a second time.
The all stars will once again be drawn from 14 countries – Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Big Brother Africa 5 is produced by Endemol and filmed on location in Johannesburg. This year, the house will feature 53 cameras and 100 microphones.
Tasks
Each week the Housemates will undertake various tasks that will stretch them to the limits in order to win a week's worth of budget that will enable them to buy groceries and other essential necessities.
Only Big Brother has the authority to assign the weekly tasks which mostly involve team play and perseverance. If the housemates display tremendous endurance, focus and willingness to succeed, Big Brother can wager up to 100% of their budget.
Rules
In Big Brother's house, the rules remain as long as Big Brother says so. He can change them at any time, so housemates and viewers alike should brace themselves for a unique viewing experience with plenty of twists and turns.
Field Presenters
To spice things up Big Brother deployed 12 field presenters to give feedback about each housemate's hype and to get a grip on home ground. The presenters are expected to interview the housemate's parents, friends and compile reports from eviction parties.
Head of House
Each week housemates compete against one another for the prestigious title of the Head of Household (HoH). The house leader's benefits include seven days' immunity from eviction plus a luxurious night at the Glass House.
