Season 57
Miss South Africa is an annual South African beauty pageant which is aired as a television special, in which women from around the country between the ages of 18-25 compete to win the title, which they hold for a year.
The pageant began in 1956 and has been held annually ever since (with the exception of 1983, the only year in which there has been no pageant). The winner of the pageant traditionally represents South Africa at the Miss World pageant, and often at the Miss Universe pageant as well.
The 57th annual Miss South Africa pageant took place in the Sun City Superbowl on Sunday 30 March, 2014. It was broadcast live on DStv's Mzansi Magic channel from 17h30 - 19h00, preceded by the Red Carpet special on Vuzu's V-Entertainment channel at 16h00 and the final episode of The Road to Miss South Africa at 17h00.
Miss South Africa 2014
It was time to say goodbye to Marilyn Ramos and hello to a new Miss South Africa. The 2014 Miss South Africa pageant featured a line-up of 12 leggy hopefuls in the cat-fight for the crown.
The process they went through to be selected aired on Sundays in the reality show The Road to Miss South Africa, which aired weekly on Mzansi Magic.
The host this year was Elana Afrika-Brendenkamp and the judges were television and radio personality Anele Mdoda; magazine editor Pnina Fenster; Amy Kleinhans-Curd, crowned Miss South Africa in 1992; magazine editor, poet and writer, Kojo Baffoe; and TV presenter, model and cosmetics brand ambassador Bonang Matheba.
A new crown was made for this year named Palesa (Flower), designed from platinum by the Jack Friedman team as well as pageant designer Malcolm Kluk using inspiration taken from the natural beauty of indigenous South African flowers and traditional patterns.
The dazzling pageant featured some of South Africa's most exciting musical talent. The line-up included Mi Casa, Matthew Mole and Bucie who entertained both the Superbowl audience as well the TV viewers watching the live broadcast on Mzansi Magic on the night, as 12 of the country's most talented and beautiful young women vied for the Miss SA crown.
The musical director for the Miss SA pageant was Brendan Jury, who conducted a 13-piece orchestra.
