Season 8
Who's the Boss? is an American television sitcom created by Martin Cohan and Blake Hunter in which a former baseball player takes a job as a housekeeper for a female advertising executive.
The title of the show refers to the role reversal of the two lead actors, where a woman is the breadwinner while a man stays at home and takes care of the house - thus the question of who the "boss" really was.
It challenged media stereotypes of Italian-Americans as wholly ignorant of life outside of urban working-class neighbourhoods.
The show aired in the USA on ABC from 1984-1992. There are 196 half-hour episodes in eight seasons.
Who's the Boss? originally aired in South Africa on TV1 (now SABC1) in the 1980s and early 1990s. It later aired on SABC2, on Mondays at 17h30, ending its run on 10 January 2002.
The series premiered on DStv's M-Net Series channel on Thursday 6 November 2008, at 19h00. See "Seasons" below for seasonal broadcast dates and times of the M-Net Series run.
Synopsis
Who's the Boss? tells the story of Tony Micelli, a good looking widower living in New York City and a single father to his young daughter, Samantha.
After retiring from baseball he gets fed up with the neighbourhood he's living in and for Samantha's sake he decides to pack up and move.
Angela Bower, a divorcee living in Connecticut, is an uptight, serious businesswoman in advertising, and a mother to her boisterous young son, Jonathan.
Mona Robinson is Angela's man-hungry mother who cannot understand her daughter's lack of interest in men and she promptly hires Tony to be a live-in housekeeper and to be a father figure to Jonathan.
At first Angela is not too happy with the arrangement but with her chaotic lifestyle she soon realizes that Tony actually makes a very good housekeeper.
Who's the Boss? takes a look at the lives of Tony and Angela, how they rear their children and the romantic tensions surfacing between the two, leading to one of the longest and most frustrating courtships in the history of sitcoms.
