Finally. It's the day we've been waiting for. Not only from that beautiful Monday TVSA broke the news about SABC 3 getting Heroes, but the day Heroes fever infected and spread throughout TVSA like wildfire.
Just when you lost hope in the SABC, when you thought their scheduling couldn’t be compiled or more repeats or brilliant dramas being shifted to horrible late night timeslots, or them resurrect horrible local shows- they go and fully redeem themselves by acquiring the broadcasting licence for Heroes- only the Best TV Show on at the moment!
For months we were tortured by the Heroes of TVSA, those lucky members who've seen the series, torturing us about it's brilliance. Hearing its rave's and reviews in the US didn't help. But things looked bleak for SA Viewers when there was no Heroes on any channel.
It's true what they say, Blink and you'll miss them- Superheroes of course, that's how fast they were. No one had picked up Heroes. We were afraid we were going to have to wait for the DVD and watch the show on DVD rather than wait for the rumoured pick up by another soon to be channel in 2009.
So we prayed, and prayed, and hoped and hoped and finally early March News broke- SABC 3 had picked up the show- despite TVSA interrogating them months back with no success, seems like it was probably overlooked. Gasp. SABC 3 obviously hadn't realised they had this Season's Jewel of the TV World!
It soon become apparent that SABC 3 shared the excitement with us too with their "above the SABC 3 quality" standard promo's airing left right and latenight! More recently the show's been spoken about quite a bit by all three continuity presenters and even aired a promo during the infamous News Countdown before the News at 7 last night.
Of course to my uneducated non-TVSA members friends, they are under the impression "Who Will Save Us" is airing tomorrow, due to SABC 3 omitting "HEROES" in the Promo's with "Coming Soon" and using the Tag line which has confused a few viewers. None the less I have made sure they will all be watching tonight at 8:30pm, bribed, threaten and blackmailed- but they all will be there watching TV History in the making. (You'll understand the threaten to blackmail part when it comes to convincing a Lost Fan to switch during their show to see a show 10x better than Lost ever will be!)
Oh how rude of me, in case anyone missed the promos all over SABC 3 and TVSA (see RHS), or the incredibly Huge Heroes Threads (and this is before the show has even aired) and has not read anything in the media or anything- well if you’re a hermit then Heroes is about;
(Die hard fans, quickly scroll down- slight spoilers)
"Heroes is a serial saga about people all over the world discovering that they have superpowers and trying to deal with how this change affects their lives. Some of the superheroes who will be introduced to the audience include Peter Petrelli, an almost 30-year-old male nurse who suspects he might be able to fly, Isaac Mendez, a 28-year-old junkie who has the ability to paint images of the future when he is high, Niki Sanders, a 33-year-old Las Vegas showgirl who does things that are mysteriously connected with mirrors, Hiro Nakamura, a 24-year-old Japanese comic-book geek who literally makes time stand still, D.L. Hawkins, a 31-year-old inmate who can walk through walls, Matt Parkman, a beat cop who can hear other people's thoughts, and Claire Bennet, a 17-year-old cheerleader who defies death at every turn. As the viewing audience is discovering the nature of each hero's powers, the heroes, themselves, are discovering what having superpowers means to them as well as the larger picture of where their superpowers come from. Tune in each week to see how these heroes are drawn together by their common interest of evading the series' antagonist who wants to harvest their super-DNA for himself. Their ultimate destiny is nothing less than saving the world!
"So come 20h31 tonight, put your life on hold for an hour, and be taken away into, oh goodness it’s so brilliant I can’t even find an adjective. Make sure dinners cooked, the phone is unplugged, the popcorn and snacks are ready, the blankets are out and pray, pray hard that Eskom doesn’t decide your Area is next on the list for a Power Failure! We don’t have Heroes here to rescue us form the evils of Eskom- we’ll not yet anyways.
SABC 3 and TVSA, you are our Heroes, until tonight at 20h31 when I sell my soul to Heroes and become it's bitch for it's entire series run!
I think I am a Heroes-whore a, HerHo'!
Don't you dare miss the premiere!
