Idols host
Colin Moss laid charges of fraud on Wednesday against the organisers of a local "Teen Idol" competition in Knysna, which alleged in an advertisement that he would host their event on 29 July.
Moss is in Knysna filming inserts for the Idols 4 auditions that are taking place there this week.
“These people are using my name and likeness to promote an event I am not involved in,” he said angrily.
“I feel a responsibility to the people of Knysna, who might spend money on this event, to let them know that this ad is fraudulent and neither Idols or myself have anything to do with this event.”
Moss says that his manager was approached by the organisers of this event in May, but turned it down when it was suggested that the event might be televised, “because it would have been in conflict with my Idols contract,” he said.
Moss says he will be seeking legal advice about possible damages.
Meanwhile, the turnout at the Knysna leg of the auditions was so poor M-Net decided to extend the auditions by a day. With only 300 people turning up to try out for the reality competition the channel have announced an extra day - today (Wednesday 11 July) - at the Oakhill School in Knysna.
Anyone interested can register at the school from 08h00 Wednesday and audition for a chance to sing for Idols judges Dave Thompson, Mara Louw, Randall Abrahams and Gareth Cliff on Friday.
Contestants must be between 16 and 30 and produce proof of age identification.
Of the 300 who have turned up so far, 58 potential Idols got through to audition on camera for the judges on Friday (13 July), which is when the Knysna auditions wrap.
The final opportunity for any prospective Idols to audition for M-Net Idols Season 4 will be at Supersport Park in Centurion on Wednesday, 18 July.
