Strictly Come Dancing: THE FINALE

(the first and last time I'm stilling pics..sorry guys, my camera didn't have batteries!)

Okay, I’ll admit that I wasn’t entirely decided if I should do a write-up of this episode seeing as the only thing I was concerned about was whether or not HHP would win.
Mara ke, it’s true that your thoughts become your habits and your habits become your behaviour. Just after the first dances, I scrambled around looking for paper cause I just couldn’t let go!

The remaining couples had three dances to do : their choice, the judges’ choice and a freestyle (I think).

Scores from the first dance:

Candice and Quintus (Foxtrot):

D=8, S=9,L=9, T=7                                   TOTAL SCORE= 33

HHP and Hayley (Jive):

D=9,S=8,L=9,T=7                                     TOTAL SCORE=33

2. Judges’ choice

The judges had required the participants to do a medley/combo of all the dances they’d learned. Quintus suggested to Candice that maybe they should wear Afros (cause everyone else has worn one) and Candice, to her credit, gave an emphatic NO.

At this point of the competition, the couples put in a lot more show to their dances and ditched the controversial technique because they realized that in the end, it really is the viewers that would decide their fate , through their votes (Whaddup Cande?).
They danced to this song, “You’re gonna miss my loving" by some group (The O'Jays?)

Candice and Quintus

They started off the medley with a bit of pantsula and graduated to the jive but the judges weren’t in agreement whether it was a hit or miss. Dave and Tyrone didn’t feel Candice’s mojo and Salome glowed and sang Candice’s praises for finally mastering the toe points although she ambigiously said that the couple's danced was too careful. Realising that everyone but her understood what she meant, she went on to say that they danced well but were just too careful. Clear enough I suppose.
I was beginning to think that the pointed toes aren’t such a biggie if she’s the only one concerned about them.

Judges' scores: D=7, S=8, L=8, T=7                                TOTAL SCORE=30

HHP/Hayley

They started out with the pantsula, then danced through the foxtrot, waltz, chachacha and ended with the jive (Eish at least I hope that’s what the dances were). Hayley was unwrapped (literally) out of her long skirt in a really flowing manner. The transition from one dance to the other was so flawless and smooth it was a real pleasure to watch. I just had to quote the judges’ comments:

Salome, "This was your best performance ever".
Lillian, "You lifted the bar on entertainment" (huh?) and praised them for technique and HHP for connecting well with his partner.
Dave, "The creativity was awesome !"

There was no comment from Tyrone and I thought that was a big mistake cause he’s had a habit of letting his score speak for him, unlike that Mabeni guy from Durbs.

Judges' scores: D=9, S=9, L=10, T=9            TOTAL=37 ,
marking Lillian’s first 10 and Tyrone’s highest score since. Hayley should have told the nation that she has a crush on Tyrone, maybe they’d have received 10 he he he!

3. Dance three was a freestyle for Candice and Quintus and a jive for HHP and Hayley.

Candice and Quintus

They danced to a live performance from Jamali’s “love the song but don’t know the title—hey, I was kicked off the Jam Alley auditions.”

If Candice ever looked stiff, it was during this dance. She was hoisted onto Quintus’ shoulders in a very unexplainable way but she looked like she was climbing a staircase. There’s a moment swallowed by my TV set 'cause the next thing that happened was that Quintus had a bouquet/bunch of roses and Candice was left standing in the centre like she was waiting for a taxi and their dance ended with them laughing at some joke or other. Very odd.

As usual, the judges were seeing a different performance cause they were gushing with praises..eish I gotta stop with the clichés.

Salome said the lift was done magnificently. Dave said the dance was wicked (pronounced the English way ). Tyrone saw elegance and was pleased with the technique.

There was an article on The Times yesterday on the two of them suddenly dancing for sentimental reasons. HHP said he was dancing for his future sister-in-law, who was in hospital and that his win, should it happen, would be dedicated to her. What does this mean? Will he give her his trophy or the Cobra hampers?
Candice, not to be outdone, said she had lost her grandmother and was dancing in remembrance of her. Oooohkay.

Two things:
1. There was absolutely NO reason to garner sympathy votes.
2. That article failed to bring an awwwww comment from me..

Judges' scores: D= 9, S=7,L=8,T=8       TOTAL SCORE= 32

HHP AND HAYLEY

Danced to a live performance of Tuks’ Senganga (is that what the song is called?).

That was a great decision from these two cause HHP was in his element. Theirs was a performance defined (DEFINITION OF PERFORMANCE). I was so proud of HHP on Hayley’s behalf…tjo that song infused them with so much energy, I think HHP’s knee just magically healed during this performance. Even the judges felt a bit of hip hop in their bones with the following hilarious but real comments:

Lillian: a hott, hip hop tango baby!
Tyrone: hola, fabulous (he just replaced the Hola 7 phrase with this)
Dave: at the worst possible moment, he forgot his hip hop line and mumbled something I couldn’t type out even if I’d wanted to so he settled for, You’ve been the most consistent.
Salome= kae kapa kae (stealing from the lyrics of the song), you rock. She doesn’t disappoint with her vernac.

Scores: D= 10, S=10, L=10, T=10 8                TOTAL SCORE= 38

You know the world would go to war if Tyrone gooied a 10! Mara ke, his score made me laugh. If he was my maths teacher, I probably would have enjoyed that subject cause numbers have never been this funny.

In the end HHP/Hayley were in the lead with 108/120 points and Candice/Quintus scored 95/120 points.

To think that they’d announce the winner and not continue the show an hour later is to be unreasonable and totally outta your mind. The unthinkable happened…they went on that well loved hiatus and I then watched Mr Shuga Mzolisto building someone a house. Well at least Shuga can believe him if he promises to build her a house..hi hi hi. Ngiyadlala Shugs;-)

After the break, where I was forced to watch Doobsie fail to bring tears to her eyes (that scene was so not heartbreaking, it wasn’t funny), SCD returned.

All the eliminated couples did a short performance of the dance that got them kicked off the show and I was reminded of how underserving Lesley was of the first elimination spot. He and his partner did the rumba and even though it might have been 15 seconds long, it was well worth watching them dance again.

Patricia did her legendary split. Lieschen and Ryan danced and I was surprised to see that Lieschen still had not found personality, even in Zim where stuff is half price!
Hezekiel/Lindsay danced in those blue outfits and I’m still in awe of this woman—she’s a great dancer.
Then the comedy that was Erald and Mary did the last dance and it was even more comical than the last one when they were eliminated.

We then had a performance from professional freestylers and they danced to Alanis Morrisette’s classic (by now you should know that I’m bad with song titles). The dance was an erotic piece that got my partner declaring it the best performance he’d seen so far.

He even went on to say he wouldn’t mind watching that performance the entire night. I believed him when he said it had nothing to do with the bitch’s female dancer’s outfit. With that, I gained a new resolve to take dance lessons.

*when are THE BIGGEST LOSER SA, auditions taking place?*

Finally, it was announced that the well-deserving HHP/Hayley had won the SCD trophy and R20, 000.00 but they forgot to announce that I had won R1000.00 for my blogs. Yeah, right!
