Back in the day when Television Producer titan, Aaron Spelling was around creating hit after hit, in 1997 he created Daytime soapie, Sunset Beach which ran for three years (1997 - 1999), however resulting in cancellation due to low ratings. There is something about spectacular and different viewing, which puts soapie fans in hazzard, so unfortunately, most didn't get to enjoy the spectacular viewing of this incredible soap, yet they continued watching shows like Days of our Lives which is shoving ridicule down our throats.
Later, SABC 3 decided to broadcast this amazing soap, and not only was it a hit here, but a fan fav amoungst many soap viewers, on and off this site, and most soapie fans, and non-soapie fans will confess to!
However the soap came to an end in 2001, when SABC 3 broadcast the entire soapie run replacing it with All My Children. Since then Sunset Beach fans have mourned the loss of the show and expressed thier desire to see the Soapie being rebroacasted again.
Six years later a little channel called eTV which ironically is airing Sunset Beach's US replacement, Passions, announced that they aquired the rights for Sunset Beach rebroadcast and will begin airing the soap daily at 10h30 from today, replacing dusted and cobwebbed, Dallas.
For those who missed the beggining of the soap, miss the soap, or never got the chance to view it, eTV allows you to start your day even better than having a Kellogs breakfast meal! Start your day with Sunset Beach!
So whether you're working at 10h30, blogging away madly, or sleeping, we suggest you put all that on hold and tune in to eTV and check out this memorable daytime soap.
In case your living in the darkest ages, where the Sun has set a few years back, Sunset Beach is about:
"Set in a small coastal California community, Sunset Beach made its mark on daytime television by combining traditional daytime drama storytelling with the natural beauty of Southern California's beach locations.
Sunset Beach features characters from all walks of life - rich, poor, heroes, villains, lovers, friends and enemies.
Families such as the Richards, the Deschanels, the Torres and the Cummings are all interwoven, often coming together at the funky blues/rock club, The Deep, or at the cyber coffeehouse, Java Web.
They work as police officers, lifeguards, reporters, waiters, lawyers and restaurant owners.
In true escapist soap opera spirit, the storylines are outrageous and sensationalist and nearly everyone in the drama is young, single, ultra-hip and sexy. The show has been aired in nearly 70 countries around the world."
Sunset Beach features fairly fast paced (in comparison with other Soapies) originally creative storylines, different to those seen in other soaps with elements of Supernatural, Murder Mysteries, Fantasies and Satiring the Soapie Genre, by often breaking the 'fourth wall' and allowing the show to build well remembered characters such as Annie Douglas (Sarah Buxton, Morgan on The Bold and the Beautiful) who was one of Sunset Beach's most memorable Vixens added dimension to her character with the edge of fantasy ridicule.
Other memorable characters original Sunset Beach viewers will remember will be the 'goody-goody' Meg Cummings, which the entire series is based around and her soon to be Husband Ben and his pyschotic twin brother Derek, who at one point in the soaps run spans his own pyschotic serial killing storyline, not to be missed. Besides the well known Sunset Beachers, everyone will remember Turkey Baster, Virgina who incidently at the time was one of the first African-American villian in a US soap, and was she really a villian. Viewers will remember Virgina drugging Vanessa with another man's stolen sperm all in the name of breaking up Vanessa and Micheal whom Virgina wanted.
Be it love triangles, cursed jewels which kill, Earthquakes which tear families apart and set off shockwaves with tidal waves enough to overturn boats and some Island Killing, mixed with Voodoo Magic and dead ex-wives and twin brothers turning up, Sunset Beach had it all.
Even more of a reason to rehash and enjoy viewing this amazing soap again, even if you caught it the first time, if not, do yourself a favour and check this one out!
