On Saturday I caught up on episodes that I've missed of Ugly Betty and thoroughly enjoyed ripping through them. The fourteenth episode's coming up this week (23 in the season) and every episode gets funnier, more trippy and more meaningful.
After watching them I went off to sleep invigorated - like I could collapse on the pillow and conk out peacefully 'cos of the feeling the show's developed from the beginning - that it's okay to be as you are.
The episode that really blew my hair back was episode 7 - when Betty went on assignment for Mode to that pricey hotel and had the crisis about what to write. I could relate it to completely - if I had to write a review of a hotel like that I'd enjoy exactly the same things she did.
The massage, TV and the view from the hotel room was brilliant but if I went to that posh dining room and got that ridiculous food from that slappy waiter I'd be rolling my eyes through every moment while wishing I wasn't or feeling I shouldn't.
Which would then be followed by the same crisis Betty had about whether to write for what she thought Mode's Cosmo world wanted or what she really thought.
The best about it was how it relates to everything - do you try to pretend that you're someone different out of a feeling you need to for various reasons (some of which can be important) or do you be you and if it's a problem it's too bad?
I reckon this is a reason the show's as popular as it is - that loads of people have this dilemma and would like to break free from it all but it's difficult so when you see someone facing the same thing you have to watch more 'cos of how cool it is to know you're not alone.

The teaser for this week's episode: "Betty has her job cut out for her getting prepared for Mode's huge event during New York City's Fashion Week. Meanwhile, Marc and Amanda can't delay getting their hands on something everybody desires, Christina wishes to create her mark in the design world and Daniel calls for Hilda to grant her sister a hand."
