Her name is Gosiame, I have shared a lot of memories and wonderful experiences to just say a one liner like Black Alfa Romeo 147 1.6, 5 door, 2004 Model, 97k km, R90 000 neg, female owner, smash and grab, 10 CD shuttle. I could not simply put a life spent together like this; Damn! My baby deserves a little more than that! We have spent a good part of 3 years 9 months together!
Interest rate went up AGAIN. Ao, Tito, mara why? I am part of the first bunch of peeps to admit that I need to downgrade my life. And it means selling my most reliable possession. So, my baby is on sale.
I feel that putting a one liner advert on a publication will not do justice to my child. Gosiame is my second car-child after I sold Onthatile to my aunt. She has been with me since 1 February 2004, after being shipped from the Italian mountains to South Africa. She spent an approximate 3 weeks on a ship and truck before reaching the dealer in Gauteng. I had patiently waited while the Italian Alfa factories build my special car-child from scratch for 5 months.
I had fallen in love with the car and wanted it so bad. I approached the dealer who told me they are struggling to get Black 5 door Alfa’s in Msanzi and I would have to be placed on a special order list so the car is built for me; my specs and alles, but I would have to wait roughly speaking 7 months or so. I was over the moon, the wait was worth it. So I placed an order and waited impatiently! I called every week to find out how far the process was.
Eventually on the December day she rocked up at the dealer in her fabness, they called me relieved that they wouldn’t have to deal with my calls. I rushed there with Onthatile, promising her a better home, all my love, how things will not change between me and her and how special she will always be to me. Classic breakup bullish! As I drove into the dealer the rain started pouring heavily – this was a sign for me; Gosiame was a true blessing!
I sat in my car – She wasn’t officially mine then – but she felt special. She was covered in plastic all over. Every light in the car had never been switched on, all the dials still had Zero (0km) on them. Nothing had been touched since she had left Italy. I demanded to touch, feel and know how everything works! I was simply a demanding client but the dealer, Llewellyn, complied with my demands. As I drove out of dealer I knew everything about the car; I had felt touched and experienced her.
To pay for all the impatient calls, I had made before she came here, I would wait another 6 weeks before she was finally in my possession. It was the smash and grab shop not being opened during silly season, then the waiting list being too long for installation of CD shuttle after the festive season. The reasons were endless.
On the 31 January 2004, I got a call that all was well and I could fetch my car-child! I rushed there to fetch her. In my state of panic and excitement, she stalled more than 3 times in the parking lot. From that day, my life changed.
Like every child, we have our sweet and sad moments but I will always treasure her for being the most reliable, most efficient, most loving and most memorable little car-child. The memories are countless; but they will never be lost.
She was there when:
- I was a club freak; clubbing and partying every weekend.
- I moved out of my ma’s house.
- I went for my first beach visit and first holiday.
- We had a fallout with my gals on that specific trip, and brought be back by my lonesome self from Knysna.
- Eish! My gals Dimago and Muki did not speak to me for almost a year after that holiday trip.
- I broke up with Moots and drove from Rustenburg at 3 in the morning!
- When I met my King K and dated.
- I got married and insisted nobody’s car, even my aunts Mercedes, was good enough to take me to church!
- I went to the hospital to give birth to my son.
- I had my fabulous Untouchable weekend and I drove Lerato, Meryl and Max to Bertha’s eviction.
But Like every thing, se sa feleng se a tlhola (every beginning has an ending) – It is time to say farewell, my love, farewell…
