Politically Hurt

The ANC led government has let me down. I am not a political analyst or very opinionated about politics BUT I am a citizen of this country that has the power to vote. I am writing this with a sore heart and anguish about our future. What is going on? I will express each and every emotion I have felt for the past 7 years that Mbeki has been president. I feel scared about my rights to express myself freely and willingly without being victimized for my point of view or opinion. I feel ashamed at the state our nation is in.

My stance
I am not an Mbeki or a Zuma supporter, I WAS a huge fan of the ANC and its policies. I have been let down and I need to let it out.

Arrogance
Whenever a politician is interviewed or questioned about the state of affairs in our country – the sheer arrogance perturbs me. They seem to have forgotten that we, the citizens of the country, voted them in power and can remove them. They seem to send out this message that “What can you do?” I feel totally disgusted by this behaviour as I feel my vote is worth more than the crap we are being dished by government each day.

Our president has arrogantly denied the people of Khutsong an answer or even an appearance to say – “I hear you, my people”. Nothing more. Just an empty promise, even on TV, would have sufficed for those people. Does our president listen to us? The voters, the citizens; THE people that need his leadership?

In retrospect, he just pretends they don’t exist. People are so frustrated about their plight that most schools are closed and life is just dull in Khutsong. All they want is to be addressed.

Denialism
Our president is in denial about HIV and AIDS. We all know this. If you don’t know then I suggest you find articles where his opinion of AIDS and HIV has bordered on “it’s not my problem”. SOUTH AFRICA IS now NUMBER 1 in THE WORLD with HIV infections… I know it is up to the individual to ensure they don’t get infected but the countries that had government leading the education and roll-out of information to people and processes that helped the people understand AIDS and HIV are now very low on the list!

Ineffective Ministers
All I really remember them for is the squirms and uncomfortable looks they give to Debora Patta when she asks them direct questions. They are forever clueless about our plights and needs. They make promises on camera and even communicate via letters AND then they seem to completely forget until it hits the headlines. Then all of a sudden, you see them scramble for explanations – Why are they reactive?

Manto Tshabala-Msimang, oh my gaad! Where do I begin? What has she done for our plight on health issues? Some places still do not have adequate health facilities? Nothing! What is she doing? Drinking with Mbeki, according to the reports – she is ill, Kindly let her go and rest gracefully. Let someone else that knows our health needs and issues address and lead us.

Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Another hopeless case that seriously needs to get out of government!! Zimbabweans are suffering, isn’t she our foreign affairs minister – help the people, you don’t have to physically wrestle Mugabe but open the lines of communication and address the plight of Zimbabweans… They need our government to intervene… Do something!

The men! I cannot even begin to list their inefficiency and my total disgust (strong word, I know, but I am being honest) at their huge waistbands that just seem to grow and grow and grow but when it comes to delivery I fail to remember or see anything!

The only MP I have complete respect for is Trevor Manuel. Maybe it’s because he deals with my bread and butter, indirectly and directly. But when that man talks, I listen because I know he will deliver. This is one MP I would sadly sob for when he passes away and I pray he stays on until he is old and grey! Everyone else, I really don’t care – they need to quit!

Succession battle
The Zuma and Mbeki battle is now on the news. How do I feel about it? I am truly sad and sickened by it all. Mbeki needs to bow out and do what the constitution says – He has had 2 terms and he has not delivered, let someone else lead. Mandela led and guided him to lead; I am very proud of the move Mandela made with the grooming and the support he gave Mbeki as he stepped down. I would have so much respect for Mbeki if he had done the same, or even does it. It is not too late! He can put his support behind Cyril Ramaphosa and I have belief that Cyril would win! Mbeki needs to know when it is time to go. AND HIS TIME IS UP!

Zuma is not a candidate I would vote for to be president of the country. I would not support him as I feel he lacks something that I really can’t put my finger on. His hands are too dirty for my liking; he has just been in the news for all the wrong reasons and that makes me uncomfortable to put my support behind him.

Public Interviews
Mbeki has not accepted interviews on Radio and TV for a long time, he has a weekly blog. All of a Sunday Zuma is set to appear on Debora Patta’s show – wham! Bang! Slam! Mbeki is on the same slot on SABC… and AGAIN this week he will address the nation on 17 SABC radio stations and TV. Wow! Why SABC only? Do I smell propaganda? Why not accept an interview on 702 fm and e-tv (Debora Patta)? Are we now worth an address when the succession battle is in the news? I don’t buy it, Mr President! You may be too late!

I am slowly considering which party to vote for in 2009. ANC unfortunately is not on my radar, whoever becomes president of the party doesn’t mean squat to me. I have not seen results from the ANC government and I am not disillusioned about any manifesto they come out with.

I have friends that REFUSE to vote and did not vote the last elections, I REFUSE NOT TO VOTE – I have family that died so I can have the right to and I will do it! Whether I vote for KISS is up to me! BUT I will VOTE! Those that refuse simply say “What’s the point? There’s never any results except ministers getting fat!” The point I say is to choose the people that know your pain and needs! Vote for them!

This is MY opinion. I may be wrong, but am willing to listen and hear what you guys think and feel. I really would like to know that I am not the only angry citizen. Please convince me to have faith in our government… Give me your opinion of what our current political climate or situation is leading us to? How will you remember Mbeki or the ANC led government? What has Mbeki done for this country that you will remind you of his leadership?

i agree with your post totally except on 1 fact i don't think he was arrogant by not appearing on 3rd degree last night i mean ever since deborah patta became editor-in-chief of e-news nothing positive about mbeki has been reported she(deborah) makes it her mission to credit the ANC so he did the right thing by not appearing on 3rd degree in my opinion

Amazing

THabo Mbeki is too power hungry and autocratic for my liking.
Jacob Zuma might be popular but its for all the wrong reasons.
Tokyo Sexwale wants the top job just to up he's profile in the celebrity stakes.
Cyril Ramaphosa would be the best thing since sliced bread to happen to our country. He seems to be the most level headed of the lot.

I have always voted and will do so in 2009 but I'm not sure my cross will be next to some balding ANC man this time (Except for Cyril).

Aqui: I am not saying Mbeki is arrogant for being on Debora Patta's show - I feel that all ministers are really arrogant. Mbeki just doesn't have time for us and that reflects as arrogance.

I think being on your biggest critics interview chair is a sign of not being scared to face those that are very critical of your work. The fact that they don't have anything good to present does not mean you dig your head in the sand and only bring it up when there is chaos! You have to face them at some point; at your time and conditions would also work in your favor.

Moonchoo: I feel sad that you did not vote but am proud that you will not complain at stuff that happens because you made the choice not to have a voice with your vote.

Kele: thank you. I would love to remove the pic but it relieves my stress so I am sorry... I refuse to.

LM: I hear you! I am exactly where you are, right now!

Amazing: I agree with everything you wrote!

Mbeki for me has been the greatest president we had thus far. Our rand grew strong, foreign investors have faith in us.  What truly touches me about him is his introduction of NEPAD.  He does not only care about SA but the rest of Africa.  Sometimes when you are a leader you DO have to be arrogant and always stand for what you deem is right for your country.  I'm glad that he said NO to 3rd Degree.  SABC is the appropriate platform for him to air his views a majority of will be reached.

It's not in Nkosazana's place to intervene but we (SA) do not want to be seen interfering in their business as stipulated in our foreign policy.  Quiet diplomacy is reaping its rewards and Zim will be ok.

Nkosazana is very intelligent and has done us proud with all the bilateral, multilateral deals that we have with so many countries.

It's very important to vote, so many people died so that you can have the right to vote.  It's ok if you vote for any other party but exercise that right.  So many countries are not democratically led and yet the people there earn for that power to mark an X.  We are so fortuante but still do not see it.

I'm very impressed by your effort as a South african citizen to voice your dissappointment with our governement, and I agree with most of your points, except  on
Nkosazana Zuma...I'd fully support that woman for either deputy-resident or even first female preS(i think she's smarter and hardworking that Phumzile)..in fact she's actually done more good for our international affairs...as for the zimbabwe issue I think its bigger than just her portfolio, in fact the President should have been the one to initiate a strategy to deal with the Zimbabwe issUe, and bear in mind that the ANC led govt, rules as a collective with ANC principles to be followed, and what not, so for her to embark on a Zimbwabwe strategy she'll need a go-ahead or more support from the president ..who hasnt done mush despite calls from different forums and media to get involved.

As for voting..I think as South Africans we still have the mentality of being led and not taking the initaive...(i'm talkin about us muntus) this i must say has a lot to do with the apratehid regim...because we've only been through two national elections, which hasnt really given us the results we expected.(and also the understanding and experince of how you vote influences future decisions)..so for the avarage black person to enthusiasically look forward to voting...one needs lots of motivation, such as a good delivery record, by the existing government, an active participation of oppostion parties in the parliament which should give one an option where you can either vote for the ANC or for another party having observed their involvement in government issues and everything else....
but what we have is a one-party led government, where the opposition is there to make a lot of noise and get paid as MP's while at it (oh and then play the floor-crossing game now and then)...and then we have the ruling party trying to control the media, so that they are potrayed as having delivered on their promises....and I know some blogger strongly belive that the governemnt has done a lot....but once you go to the township and you read the reports and surveys and you just talk to the ordniery person, you'll realise that YES they've done well in some areas, such as legislations, human rights, equity programs, ect..but where it matters most....and where its more visible our government has really let us down...e.g you still have children schooling under trees, you still have Alexender type ghetto's , and you still have more crowds of unemployed former construction workers just waiting by the freeway.......now if you look at the number of scandals in tendering processes and the so-called BEE guys you wonder what happened to the spirit of bettering the life of the previously disadvantaged ..instead the rich gets richer or the government-connected gets richer (and fatter)..while the masses are languishing in poverty... and you wonder why people want to vote for Zuma (NO I wont vote for him..and I'd be very dissaponted not only at the ANC for alowing its leadership to come to that point where someone like ZUma wins the masses, but also for the South African voter to chose Zuma as someone to lead the country...but at least I would understand....probably I wont be in the voting line...and dont try to preach me about the benefits/necessity/importnace of voting...-AND PLIZ  DONT PLAY THAT STRUGGLE /FREEDOM FIGHTERS STORY AGAIN...MY RELATIVE DIED THERE..BUT THATS NO REASON TO EXPECT ME TO BOW TO EVERYTHING ....like Jerry Macguire..."show me the money"  then I'll vote....
...thats my five-cents story and I'm sticking to it....
I wish them politicians read such articles and read how we feel...Miss Brown do your networking--(this time mingle with them politicians instead of aboSbudah....I trust<

Mathaz i see you are a Tata Mbeki supporter.  I support the ANC but not Tata Mbeki going for 3rd term.  I feel that he is a hypocrite who will only admit to problems when it suits him, I say this because he has kept his buddies Mama Manto and Commissioner Jackie Selebi after calls for them to be axed while he was swift to act and axe Mr Jacob Zuma before he was found guilty in the court of Law.

As much as i admire his poetry i simply cannot ignore the fact that our crime rate has skyrocketed under his leadership...

Swazi95>>we shuld stop voting using our emotions<<

Unfortunately with anything that involves you livelyhood  your emotions will be affected and thats life..of course people think before voting, but its a given that when you join  that very long que on a sunny voting day  your emotions are certainly at play..you're thinkin whats gonna happen, will I get my two room brickhouse faster this time around, or will my area get a tarred road...I mean if you expect people to vote like they are playing charity lotto   ha!!!!! haikhona......

Really who is to blame for the lack of service delivery?  We can't solely blame Mbeki.  the blaming should start from your Councillor, Local Government, Provincial then the National (I stand corrected).  In most cases the Councillors are the culprits as they misuse funds allocated to enrich themselves and also give tenders to their inexperienced friends.

I hope more bloggers would write articles like these and voice out their opinions about whats going on around us. HOnestly speaking who the next president will be will affect us more than catching up on America's Next Top Model. There is a time for everything and I think bloggers aren't as balanced as they shold be when it comes to their lives.

AnywaY i'M OUT OF HERE.

Umm....this is TVSA, remember? There are other platforms for that.

Anyway, Sego I feel your pain my sister, I do.
I'm more excited than scared about what's going coz I'm looking foward to seeing how it all ends.
Will Zuma win? Will he force Mbeki out if he wins? Will Mbeki win? Will there be a surprise winner? I can't wait!
This whole thing that's happening with the ANC is making me go "E ne etla ba ha se bo darkie!!!"
