The one thing I will always remember about 29 February 2008 is that I got down on one knee and asked Lupi Ngcayisa to marry me...Yeah, I know, I wasn't thinking...I couldn't help it. I just saw him in that gorgeous suit he wore, with his hair freshly plaited, his smooth skin glowing under that "mzansi star" light & I couldn't help but say it...I asked him to marry me. I didn't care that there were people with and around us, I just did it. I told him I love him and I proposed.
Okay, this is not about my love life....or whether or not he accepted, this article is about a few of my thoughts on the Inaugural Stars of Mzansi Awards. The awards were OKAY. I would give them a 6 out of 10. That is still much much better than the -6 the Channel O awards got (yeah, I won't let them forget that mess).
Anyway, besides the crappy seat I got (tjo, talk about being Z-List), I had a good time. Thank Gaad for the great company of my gals Dee, Pelo & Baby. It was good chilling with you...
Later hooked up with TDC (The mini Great One) & cute Cande, such party animals.
Okay, okay, okay, the awards....
You know I'm not one for long stories so if you missed the show and are looking for a blow by blow account of what went down, check out my gal Segololo's report on
MZANSI NOT SURE AWARDS. Mina I specialise ngama shortcuts....
hi hi hi hi yeah, I'm lazy like that!
As usual, there has to be some sort of apology and this time it's that I'm sorry, I forgot to charge my batteries so yeah, not a lotta pictures plus I just seemed not to have the energy to run around taking pics. I have enemies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! & I may try act strong but oksalayo, it's not easy. There is just something about the way "people" look at me....
Okay yeah, the awards.......eish!
Firstly let me apologise to Dee for her car! When we got to the parking lot, she scratched her car against a wall, trying to squeeze it in the parking spot. I got out of the car & tried to direct her but I was useless, till one of the guys working there came and assisted her. So sorry gal.
Tjo, the awards.....
The first celebrity I saw when I got to the event was Uyanda. I saw her in the parking lot in her beautiful green dress and I ran back to the car! I don't know why I did, I just did okay?
Anyway, she was with her hubby and gosh, if I ever get married, I wanna have a husband that supportive.
Okay, from the parking lot, it was on to the red carpet....
Damn, as much as I loved that whole "red carpet" idea with screaming fans on the side, I hated the fact that it was the only way to enter/exit the venue!
I am shy! I didn't wanna walk in front of all those people (not because they didn't know me heheheheh) but really, couldn't they create a brown carpet for us "unknowns"? I don't belong on a red carpet, unless I'm paid to be there!!!!
It was a really nice atmosphere though. Just having all those fans scream their lungs out whenever they saw their favourite stars was truly awesome & it was embracing the core of the Stars Of Mzansi Awards: CELEBRATING HOMEGROWN TALENT!
Well done to the guys who made that possible, the organisers, the FANS, honestly, that RED CARPET would not have been RED if batho ba Pitori were not there. Thank you Pretoria for a Job Well Done!
Now, for the few pictures I managed to get....(Renegade & co, sorry in advance but please email me HERE if you can't see the pics, I will gladly mail them to you)
They could not have gotten a better person to do the Red Carpet Interviews. Nonhle was born to do that & I think even my darling Shwashwi will agree that she did a super job of it!
I dare you to find something wrong with the weave this time! It is very much on point!
As for Simphiwe Majola, who assisted her....umm...what were they thinking?? Sizzling hot....sizzling hot....sizzling hot...that's all he said!!!!
I am yet to be informed of what exactly is going on here....
Every where I turn, Kabelo is with Lelo....Is it a sign, that he could be reaching out to me, the real Lelo?? I'm here baby!!!!!!!!!!!
"Tsiki Tsiki Sophie"
Yho, Sophie Ndaba is looking hot shame, loved her in that red Number!!!
Jigga & Beyonce Slikour and Bonang were there looking cute....yah bayathandana shame....
What didn't look cute was Slikour & Tansey (Miss SA) during that awkward moment with the mic. No freestyle, just silence...while we waited for a mic to get there. Like Sego, I also did wonder about a podium at that moment but hell, we gotta move with the times....I didn't see no podium at the Oscars/Grammies!
I looked, looked & looked but no, I didn't see no D Cup! Nothing!
And for Amstel (who is such a sweetheart) to go around comparing himself to Michael Jackson, really now! That is just wrong! His clothes look like you've seen them before.
Khanyi tells Selimathunzi that this is not the "expensive" dress she spoke about before the awards. Apparently that one was not finished on time so she settled for this one.
I think it's beautiful.
Khanyi's dress was beautiful but for me Sonia Sedibe's was just pure gorgeous!
She was like a goddess in that dress...pity she had not-so-nice things to say to me.
Sorry about the pic not being so clear guys....
Oh about the not so nice things....well, here's how the 'talk" went:
Her: By the way, I've been meaning to tell you...
Me: Yes...
Her: My husband's not a celebrity.
Me: Huh?
Her: My husband's not a celebrity & he hates it when people say that
Me: (Pause.....I'm trying to remember what I said about her husband on RGB) Hawu, you are still there?
Her: Yeah, he hates it when people say that. I just wanted to set the record straight.
Me: (I murmur something even I couldn't hear & then....) May I please take a picture....(so I took this picture so that you can know I"m not making this up!)
I would have to dig for my RGB "scripts" to remember what exactly I said all those months ago on the show but really, I can't believe people take things I got paid to say so personally.
She is still my best dressed for the evening regardless!
And to all those who were, together with Zwai wondering "Where is Loyiso?" when he was supposed to be on stage perfoming??
Well, now you know...heheheheh
Yhu, that was such an embarassing moment shame....I was debating with a friend about whether or not that whole thing was done on purpose and when Zwai shouted "where is loyiso" at the end of the song, all I could say was "I rest my case."
Shame, I was embarassed on their behalf. He came back and gave a nice perfomance though and yeah, I dig Tasha Baxter, awesome!!
I love Zukisa but I didn't like her dress...it looked more like something Beyonce Knowles would wear and you know how Beyonce loves "wedding" dresses.
Or maybe I"m just jealous that I can never wear such a dress...I would need to do some major work on my boobs first, breastfeeding messed me up heheheheh.
Some gals are just lucky yazi!!!!!
Winnie, Cande Gal & Koyo
WOW!!!!! Khethiwe Winnie Modise looked spectacular! I loved her dress so so much, and you should have seen her upclose, she really looked like a little princess.
I also lurved the way her brows were shaped, u know how black women & eye brows don't get along....
I see Cande & that glass of wine were joined at the hip....literally...
Like I said, TDC was there in all fabness...rubbing shoulders with them mzansi stars! Wonder if he talked to Palesa about the Generations script....
speaking of Generations, how come we never see Mfundi Vundla at these events???
And where was Connie Ferguson? Would have loved to see her man, just to satisfy my girl crush heheheheh.
Palesa's Machere creation was simple but nice. I love the colour!
Ooh Skhova bathong....Cande actually wanted to run away here heheheh
And while we are on the Skhova topic, is Sbu becoming the Kanye West of Mzansi Awards?
That thing he said to Sbonga when they went to receive their award... "I have a couple of these already, come and say something."
That thing he said on Selimathunzi "I could play chess with all the awards I got. I've done it in Music, Presenting, Radio......."
Please Sbu, don't! Please please please Sbu, don't! You know I love you bro and that's why I'm only saying "DON"T"! Leave it to us...we'll do it for you, don't!
The chat:
Me: Wow, I love your picture in the Cosmo Calendar...
Him: Oh really, thank you.
Me: Yeah...I have your month open all the time!!....
Pelwo the Photographer: LOOK AT THE CAMERA!!!
...and then he disappeared into the crowd....damn Pelwo!!!
I want to be on Strictly Come Dancing!!!!!! I don't care about whether or not I can dance but if being on the show makes you lose this much weight then please SABC 2, I know it's for them celebs but please I need to lose weight, especially around my "knee" area...
RELIEF does not even begin to explain how Brenda feels about being finally kicked out of the show. She's really happy to be out and that's no act!
She really needs to put on some weight back though....even though that little number ibikufanela sana, hayi maan lala ubhityile.
This picture does not do that guy justice at all, he is cute!! I don't even remember what his name is coz I was staring throughout the introductions!
Can you spot Kelly Khumalo in her "Princess Laila" outfit in the background?
Come to think of it, I saw the exact same fabric at Machere's Design House a week before the awards. I'd be very disappointed to hear she put that together.
Kelly Khumalo's bod is not to be hidden behind such, it should be out there for us to admire....heheh I'm straight man but I acknowledge a nice thing when I see one! Kelly has a cute ass...!
Chomee was there with a friend.
It's amazing, the kinda conclusions we make about people before meeting them. I actually think she's a sweet gal. I'm not talking about her singing voice okay, I'm just talking about her as a person. I like her!
Khabonina, Thembi, Khanyi, Amstel *sigh* & Zama
Thembi says I'm all over Facebook so guys I"m taking a FB leave!!!!!!!!!
Zama in her NN Vintage outfit, can't believe I have a 6 year old child....well, I do, that's why my breasts are heading south!!
It's also why I would not be able to wear that Khabonina outfit either! (eish, sorry guys, am I whining?)
Guys, I was looking at Thembi and thinking "wow, I used to cut out her pictures from Magazines & paste them in this other "book" I had....I still have that book, with all those old pictures."
She still has that smile!!!!
I mentioned NN Vintage...bathong...Nhlanhla must be wondering why the hell she perfomed in that dress. Is she pregnant?
Oh gaad, that beautiful dress! Why did it have to be like that when all she wanted to do was to sing her lungs out? She had to pull it up now and again....
Why did her boobs keep doing that? Or was it the dress? I think what makes it worse is the fact that she owns a fashion house. Ag, nothing happened though so she really shouldn't worry, we'll soon forget that perfomance.
Ones & Two's:
Thomas & Joanne Strauss:
Why didn't they change?? Isn't that what normally happens in these big award shows? I expected them to come out with different outfits....woulda been nice to see Joanne & her tiny bod showcasing some of the nominees' designs.
I agree with everyone who says Thomas' white "skinny" pants were not the hottest....
I'm still sad that I haven't had my Thomas moment though!!!!
Kagiso Lediga:
Except for the comment he made to Bryan Habana about his "skin looking good" ( I thought that was insensitive coz I"m sure Bryan has a serious problem with his skin), Kagiso Lediga was the star of the show for me!
I enjoyed (most of) his comments and damn, when he said "Bryan Habana...world cup and all....14%! heheheheheheh
Menzi Ngubane & the Million:
Someone on this site once said "The people have spoken, but they've spoken nonsense." Today I echo those sentiments.
He is a brilliant actor, you can't take that away from him but Hayi maan, not the million!
I don't know how to put this, let me just say, I didn't want him to win!
As for "Regina" on Metro FM saying that he should use the money to buy a proper suit and stop wearing "Umrabaraba"....shame on you Regina!!!!! Heheheh
Guess we know who's chowing the money hey....that "fiancee" of his...
Tjo, I tell you, he's a black man! That speech about loving her forever was about him apologizing for something he did ek se....maybe she came across some sms' or heard some rumour....I just couldn't help feeling like it was about more than we actually knew.
It was sweet the first time & boring the second time....especially because some of us don't get to hear that everyday....or at all....
David Kau looked beautiful......
Okay, this article is already long...whatever I didn't talk about you'll be able to catch on the "repeat" that will definitely happen soon. No need for any announcements, we know.
Just a lil' gossip, so who's the chick who "according to the Sowetan" was driving behind Mandoza" & called his wife & paramedics just before "disappearing" from the accident scene???
