Dunes in danger
The Department of Minerals and Energy is about to make a decision on whether or not to award a 22-year license to an Australian mining company to mine the dunes of South Africa’s pristine Wild Coast.
If given the green light, mining will gouge a total of three hundred and twenty million tonnes of sand bearing heavy minerals from a twenty two kilometre stretch of unspoilt coastline.
