This one is dedicated to Toxic for two main reasons. She's been missing my writing (I've been missing my writing too!), and secondly ... y'all need to read on.
I've recently been approached by JIKA MA JIKA to come and be a choreographer on their show. My girl DJ Zinhle told the show's producers about me, gave them my contact details and she referred me, how could I have said no?
I'm not going to give the show away, but i'll say a little that I want to emphasise on. Guys it takes a lot of energy. And passion. Patience and total discipline. It takes a lot, a lot.
The theme was "career women interested in dance" so our show will air sometime in August -- woman's month, you know mos.
So by 9.30 me and my girls were at Redpepper Productions' studios. To create a show that needs an audience in the studio is even harder because without them, you can't really continue, right? So those girls and boys you normally see jumping up and down on Jika ma Jika actually play a huge role. Hats off.
Its tiring. It was tiring to be there the whole day. Anyone could have just walked out and left, because we had to wait for such a long time for the audience. But one automatically develops patience when one is doing what one loves. That's why I always stress the importance of passion for what we do.
So how does one measure passion? simple -- what is that one thing that you're willing to do without any remuneration? What is that thing that you could just do even if someone woke you up at 3am? Thats your passion -- are you pursuing it?
Everybody here would know that I'm crazy about dance and one of my goals for this year was to "dance some more" and so far I'm happy with the outcome. First it was Dans Dans Dans, then it was Dance Umbrella and now its Jika ma JIka. I didn't go to So you think you can dance, because I was choreographing a routine for Jika ma Jika, which i messed up in the end. I think I sucked big time, but my friends who went to the show with me think otherwise. I guess you just have to stay tuned to really find out.
