WOW I still can't believe that I'm on the show. I don't think I really believed it until Thursday night when the first guests started arriving.
I woke up that morning with butterflies in my tummy and I started feeling unbelievably nervous as the day went on. I think I wound myself up so much that I got even MORE nervous about BEING nervous on the night, but then I completely surprised myself ...
When I got out there on the dance floor I forgot about the nerves I just had sooo much fun, I absolutely loved every second of it!! I thought the Salsa went really well and by the end of the night I was like, "Ah damn now we have to wait another whole week before we get to do this again!"
One of my main worries in this competition is that I'm not well-known like all the other guys so they already have their established fan bases and with that, a ton of votes! So I'm just hoping that my dancing will be good enough and that I'll appeal to the viewers, so I can get those votes rolling in...(have some sympathy for the token-fake-celeb guys!!:)
The toughest challenge in this competition has been wearing the archaic torture devices they call "ballroom shoes." And then trying to dance in them. And then trying to ignore the stench that wafts up from my feet while dancing and pretend that it's not me.
I've never had smelly feet before until I had to start wearing THESE ridiculous contraptions and now I sometimes think I even see the camera crews' faces grimace as I float past in a graceful ballroom stance, trying to act all prim and proper and lady-like, when I know my feet are contenders for DJ Fresh's Cheese of the Day!!
I used to think of myself as a super-fit person but I have never sweated like this in my life before. Climbing Kilimanjaro was a Sunday stroll compared to this. I've bruised every part of my body, including those parts that I didn't know existed.
I also used to think of myself as a co-ordinated person but after trying to copy what Grant does, I look more like Steve Urkell on the dance floor. When half my body gets it right, the other half is spastic and sometimes I'm not even sure if some of my body parts actually belong to me 'cause they sure aren't doing what my brain is telling them to do!
When I used to watch Strictly on TV, I thought dancing was a piece of cake and I couldn't understand why some people just couldn't get it right... I now have soo much respect for professional dancers!!
This last weekend I competed in SA's biggest showjumping event, the DERBY, and I completely disgraced myself in front of the entire riding population. I don't know why we were so off form but I have never in my life left the showjumping arena with 36 penalties before!!! (Unlike dancing, in showjumping the higher the score the worse the result).
I'm putting it down to physical exhaustion but I'm hoping to redeem myself in the Cha Cha Cha this week - and get a score of 36 in THAT!!!
I can't wait, Grant's put together a flippin' AWESOME dance - our Cha Cha's HOT!!!
