Thanks so much for your positive feedback guys, much appreciated!:)
Having the stage to ourselves this week was a real adrenaline rush and I'm a serious adrenaline junkie! I’m learning more about myself every day through Strictly. Usually I’m pretty chilled (being a Capetonian and all) but when I’m on stage I thrive off the energy of the audience and live TV… it’s more of a rush than A-grade showjumping!
I LOVE the Cha-cha, and it was awesome to dance to ACDC’s You Shook Me All Night Long! What a rocking song, and huge thanks to Grant for giving me such a fantastic routine… which went fairly close to plan… um… until the lift at the end, where I nearly fell off the horse!!
So much for our flashy finale, which was meant to see me leaping elegantly into the air, feet pointed and body poised, legs wrapping gracefully around Grant’s torso and effortlessly maneuvering myself to his other hip, to end with me stylishly suspended upside-down off his body. Um. Ya. WELL….
So we get to the end of the routine and I’m pretty chuffed with how it’s gone and I’m ready to finish with the cherry on top. It’ll be fine, I got it right so many times in rehearsals and I know exactly how it’s supposed to feel.
In fact, I can’t wait to impress the judges and the audience and to show off my nimble skills… so I start the effortless spring off the ground - but instead of cherry on top, it becomes bag of potatoes hanging for dear life on the side...
This is where life’s ironic sense of humour slows everything right down for you, so you can savour every split-second of humiliation that you’re about to embark on… “Shiiiiitttt…. I’m doing exactly what Grant warned me NOT to doooo…. OK don’t panic, it probably doesn’t look as bad as it feels…. Oh who am I kidding, my legs are desperately wrapped around his stomach while my bum is wrestling against the force of gravity and my arms are flapping and grabbing for something- anything- to hold onto…it looks way worse than it feels… oh crap, sorry Grant, I really f@#*ed this one up!!”
I don’t know how he saved me out of my bum-flop but I’m so grateful I didn’t land on the floor. And to my surprise the judges said nothing of it. SHEW. Relief. THANK YOU judges for your awesome comments. Just the confidence-booster I needed! So now the preparations begin for the difficult Quickstep. Tyrone said he’s really looking forward to our ballroom … EISH, me - NOT so much!!!
What I've REALLY been looking forward to is plonking Grant on my horse... which he did today and it was hilarious! I dressed him up in my woman's jodhpurs and sleeveless showjumping shirt and made him ride over a teeny tiny little jump! Watch the video before our dance on Thursday to see how he coped with having to control a half ton animal and have ME as the BOSS!!:)
