If there are plans in the pipeline to move SCD to another venue, I’d be the 1st to support the idea. Heck, I have no idea why the Carlton Ballroom is the best venue to use in Jhb. Nuff about niceties.
Arrived at the venue much earlier than expected and rushed to the bathroom to ‘freshen up’. Should be a simple enough task isn’t it? Well the bathroom is on the second floor and the lifts weren’t working so we had to walk up 2 flights of escalators-they weren’t working either and on the 7th step to the top, the escalators would start moving-in the opposite direction! Imagine doing this three times-in high heels! In the end all one could do was end up laughing.
Oh the invite said the dress code is formal/cocktail and no jeans/sneakers allowed. Hehehehehe, clearly not all animals are equal:
[ hoodie dress & jeans ]
[WEE shoes; silver shoes]Then there was a bit of drama with the seating. Spotted Somizi, who was there to support Adil and I think I saw Aubrey Poo in the audience. Could have been mistaken. Saw someone that looked so much like Judith that I am willing to bet it was her daughter.
Mara last night, was rockass!!! I have never screamed so much in October. And now for the show:
Sandy is NOT bigger guys, it’s just the way she appears on our TV sets. She’s still looking as good as she did the last season although I don’t like the black thingie hanging over her back like that. I’ve just put all the scores in one table if you want to keep checking why your favourite was given the boot last night.
Anele & partner: I started out by focusing on her toes cause I expected Salome to comment on them and halfway through her dance I ditched the idea to just watch her. This girl’s energy is amazing. I liked her hairstyle, her outfit, the stuff she says during rehearsals. I am now a Anele ‘fan’ and I am going to vote for her so she stays as long as possible on the show. That woman is light on her feet-like she doesn’t have any weight to worry about.
Gugu and Sarah:
When Taurus walked on stage, I couldn’t help thinking about his articles. Gugu is a perfectionist. That just came through in the way he dances. I am not saying he is perfect but it was clear to see that he had put as much as he could into the rehearsals and they paid off. Quite clearly Dave was smoking a different joint cause he was the only one who ranked them 6. I mean the minute Tyrone gives a 7, then you know the dancers did something amazing.
Tessa: This girl looks set to win this. She makes it look easy and if I didn’t have her articles as reference, I would never have imagined how difficult it is to master the routine. She was pointing her toes, she was poised, she had a straight back and the audience loved her. Even her butterfly dress looked good on her. Is Tessa Afrikaans? Tsho, you should have seen just how many Afrikaans-speaking people were there…hayi I’ll leave it to your imagination what it felt like.
Judith in a mtsheka: Bona…ke re bona. That mama shook what she got. I thought it was the ruffle effect mara ha uh, Judith was determined last night. At some point I thought she wanted to leave the contest and even her last article implied she wouldn’t mind if people didn’t vote for her empa maobane, mme ole showed she still has life left in her. I remember I was once worried about Eksteen looking fragile. Tjo, pictures can be deceptive. That boy is nothing but sexiness and cuteness wrapped in a non-fragile package. I seriously underestimated him and I was proved wrong last night. The leg wraps and the lifts? One can only say….o na le sebeti Ausi Judi! Oh & Sandy, Judith is not all about her kids you know. Feel free to ask her about her music……nxxx!
Sourmaxx: Kanti what part of improve am I failing to understand? The judges said Sourman had improved and I was sitting there wondering WHUUUUTT?! I saw nada improvement there. Seipati though is a joy and a beauty to watch. Their routine seemed like something Smaxx would enjoy and rap around his finger mara NOOOO……he showed us how much he had forgotten & just how much he could mess up the steps. At least he seemed like he was enjoying himself.
Adil: Guys are Adil and Robyn an item? If not, I have a work function to attend this Friday, can someone please buy me a Bongiwe Walaza creation! It’s true what Tyrone said abt Adil looking for Sexual Come Dancing and not Strictly Come Dancing cause between the shopping spree, the studio visit, the video shooting and the Metro function, I saw no dancing @ all! Nothing wrong with you two getting along more than Judy and Eksteen mara don’t forget why we tune in to the show assemblief. Anyway, nna I couldn’t spot any flaws in their dance, although I thought it was brief. Oh, there is something I spotted mara I’ma leave it at that..ahem!
Garth [video footage-can't upload]: The exGladiator has the best dancer on Strictly and he needs to recognize. If he has to see a masseuse or a physiotherapist, then he’d better do so cause I don’t ever want to see Hayley choking up with tears. I have no idea what went wrong with their routine. One minute Hayley was trotting around the floor, the next she flew across the stage with one shoe flying off her feet and still managed to halt a speeding Garth just in time to give their dance a clean finish. His feet were flat and I don’t accept that on some days everything goes wrong. Not where Hayley is concerned Garth….take note.
Hlubi:
From seeing a
bundle of energy (Anele) to a bundle of nerves was an odd sighting. Hlubi, I don’t know what it is that terrifies you about walking into a stage full of Afrikaans, Indian, White and Black faces; cameras, cameramen, judges and the thought that (I don’t know how many people watch SCD) MANY people are watching you on the screen but you gotta lose the nerves girl. Get tissue salts or something but conquer your fears girl. If you’ve ever watched a child take his/her first steps after months of crawling, then you’ll get the image. Khotso is a beautiful man to watch, please give us the opportunity to drool just a bit longer if that takes the pressure of your shoulders. It looked like Hlubi was a trapeze artist on her first walk across the tite rope. Otherwise, I could see you really wanted the dance to be perfect but your shaking was painful to watch. From your number 2 fan.
Rob & Mary [i don't know how to load a video-it's the only thing that'll give justice to their dance]: If I could have, I would have given these two a standing ovation. Mary, I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!! I don’t know what Sandy was saying about Baby Jake..sometimes this woman can be so irrelevant. I want a female winner this year but I could live with a “Rob Wins” outcome. Mary is so sexy and she’s upped her choreography. What Twakkie proved to us last night is he is a WILLING student-he will do whatever it takes to entertain us and boy did he do JUST that! I screamed and applauded and even forgot to notice that they were killing Adele’s ‘Hometown Glory’ song!
Cindy: She said something in Afrikaans and I dozed off. When I woke up, she was done. Joking. I enjoyed the Michael Jackson rendition & their dance was over before it even begun. Did it seem like the shortest dance to you as well? Salome loved it and used the S words to praise her (sensual, scintillating, sassy). Is this in some Choreography 101 handbook? The use of alliterations? Even Harold does that on SYTYCD..
DURING THE BREAK About 4 of us and an usher were stuck in a lift and my partner almost hyperventilated in that lift. The guys in the lift with us looked more scared of this crazy woman who was screaming at the top of her voice for someone to open up the lifts NOW, than they were of the possibility that we couldn’t get out of there. We were only stuck for less than 2 minutes by the way.
Batho le drama-can’t separate them!
Then we had the
most terrible tasting curry ever-actually I had very little of it but was feeling sorry for most people who seemed to be enjoying it. All this washed down with diet sodas (7 ups, pepsi’s, u get the drill). I don’t know why the caterer changed kodwa I’ll just say, free food has never tasted as bitter. Salvation Army soup must be better than this!!!
Went backstage to snap pix of my favourites:
Taurus -he really is a nice guy, gave a big smile and a big pose);
Anele who promised to check her TVSA articles and was really friendly ;and
Judith who said she didn’t think she’d be eliminated after getting so far in the competition (Didn’t want to remind her that the 1st two episodes were non-elimination).
Hlubi was sitting (cowering) in some corner wrapped in a thick gown-I really wish I knew what these people are doing to Hlubi. She looked so ‘lost’. Everyone else was getting their make up on. It’s really funny to see how quickly the smiles appear on their faces when they hear that someone wants to speak to them….i just heard TVSA? Oh
*put cheesy smile here*. Celebs, gotta love them!!
Walter is the sweetest guy on earth..like Mary said abt Twakkie, he made me the happiest woman on earth last night. True hospitality….. you rock!
Back to the show and the elimination:
The SCD people must get the is/are thing right once and for all. Example:
“And the next couple who ARE safe and returning next week IS Cindy…….” This is soon followed by
“ The 6th safe couple is……” I mean am I being petty? This irritates me to no end. It’s no excuse that Sandy and Iain are reading from a prompter. They wouldn’t read out Obama’s name if it was mistakenly typed in would they?
Anyway, Judith and Smaxx danced for their lives. Seipati and Eksteen are 1st timers on the show and I wanted to see what else they could do in terms of choreography so it was a difficult pillow to swallow that South Africa did not vote for them. The alternative was Hayley and one of them and we all know what the outcome woulda been, right? It was a sad moment for me to see Eksteen dance for his life. It may be Judith the spotlight is on but the choreographers also dance for their lives. Eish I was praying Ausi Judy a seke a phoqa ngwana batho and she didn’t! There’s raw sexual energy oozing from that boy and his butt is hmmmmmmmmmm so I am mighty tickled that he’s still in the contest.
Everyone voted to keep Judith because of
potential (Tyrone),
performance (Salome) and
elegance (Dave). My scream was the loudest. Ausi Judy, if you have to buy R1000,00 worth of airtime to keep yourself on the show, DO IT! Yr body will thank you for it. You already have beautiful legs, imagine what you’ll look like 6 weeks from now. So keep at it!!!!
Err Smaxx gave us a speech about his album and buying it but there was a funny moment behind them when Eksteen couldn’t untangle himself from Judith’s tassles.
Oh, you all now how
phoxing u Somizi is right? He was chatting to one of the guys sitting next to us and my partner asked me to ask Somizi if he had a dance school. Can u imagine ubezothini na u Somizi? Yho, I vehemently refused!
Oh, thanks Tashi….you know mos & sorry for the looooong post. Mary happened to me.
