Work Dilemmas

A friend of mine sent me the following sms this morning

“I am booked off for post traumatic stress disorder. Next week I will be hospitalized”. This brought tears to my eyes as the stress she has is from her boss.

This woman has only been in her new work from August 2008, but now she will be hospitalized for stress caused by her boss.

She has been victimised, papers thrown at her, called all sorts names, and physically been handled. I am not exaggerating, this all happened in 2 months.

She went to HR to lay a complaint, they were called for a hearing the man in question apologised promised to stop and said he was not aware of his actions, etc.

Immediately after the hearing it started again she went back and this time was told she must produce evidence as the man promised to change.

My question was how will, she give evidence, do they want her to die at work? Will that be evident enough for them? She told me yesterday when I called her these days he even close the door so that no one hears him or see what is happening.

At one stage she said to me “you know sometimes money is not all that”. I earn double of my previous work but I was never treated like this.

Bloggers please help in this situation what must she do?

Should she just resign?

Should she keep on with the abuse?

Eish this is very heartbreaking.

Tjo tjo that is just bad... goes to show gore the grass isnt always greener on the other side.... can't she try human rights... coz clearly hers are being trampled on!! nxxxa!!!

I mean what would make human beings treat each like this mara? Just so that their power can be felt?? I hate bosses that throw their weight around and they do tis because we need these jobs eeish.

I'm sure the poor girl cant just quit coz she's got responsibilities, but then again this abuse is No good 4 her health.
this is heart breaking

She must try to set her phone to record every conversation when she need to be with her boss. That should be enough evidence

I told her she must have a tape recorder ready but she was in a state when I called her yesterday. Maybe when she has gained strength she will do it I pray everyday for her.
The witness did not want to to testify, they told her they value their jobs.

My advice to your friend: Quit and get even

If she ain't happy why stay on the job. She must also bring a bucket full of ice amgalele ngawo in front of everyone just to embarrass esasidenge se boss. Hey mina I don't tolerate isht. My Afrikaner senior once said to me"Ek praat kak" Damn ngamlanda.

I told her right there ukuthi mina angiyikhulumi ikaka and never will. Phela abanye bayamhlekela nje xa ethukana. We don't get along very well even now, but I don't care.

One time I had an argument with my one of my colleagues and  she reported me to my senior. My senior never bothered to ask me what happened, she just went straight to the Manager and I was called for a hearing. I never went and its been more than 6 months now and I haven't heard anything from them. I asked them what the hearing was about, never got an answer.

Molilo....is ur friend a black lady and her boss a white man??
...
if so that means the boss is racist...(sorry dont mean to offend anyone)
Is he doing this to ur friends colleagues??.....or is it only ur friend whos the victim here??
maybe the people who used to work for him before were also treated like that....but they did'nt stand up for themselves...of which ur friend should
maybe hes trying to get rid of ur friend and hire someone of his choice...that  means he has someone else on his mind for this position
taking him to the HR was the first step....sec step is the eveidence (record)...third step is to take him to the Human Rights

Molilo

@PY I am trying to stay as far as possible from race.....
To answer u, yes black lady white boss
She is the one working close with him and yes she is the only victim
The lady who was working there bfr her also recieved the same treatment (she was an indian)
She only worked there for a month I think
If it is racial I wonder with EE/AA he will win
Yes I will stress the importancy of recording from 8-5, she must be prepared for him

She should not resign. The same thing happened to me. When something like that happens she needs to ask the people who who it happen to please sing a pare that details the event. So if he calls her stupid in front of her colleagues she must wright it down and ask them to sign the paper. They might refuse because they dont want to lose their jobs.  She must then just tell them that if it does not happen to her it will happen to them. Get enough proof then present it to HR and his superior. If no action is taken take it futher... CCMA. It's time that our managers recognise that we are there to help them not to be abused by them....

Molilo what's happening to your friend is horrible and I do think she is right to stand up for herself.

Just a word of caution though about recording him I'm not a 100% sure on this but I've heard that if you record someone without first letting them know you're recoring them then the recording is inadmissible in court. But like I said I stand corrected...

All the best to her.
