MTV has unveiled the nominees of the Listener’s Choice Award for the upcoming MTV Africa Music Awards.
The Award celebrates the tracks and artists who've triumphed on radio in 2007/8.
Nominees have been chosen by listeners of radio stations across the continent including RTGA FM (DRC), Joy FM (Ghana), Homeboyz Radio (Kenya), Kiss FM (Kenya), Cool FM (Nigeria), 5fm (South Africa), Clouds FM (Tanzania), Sanyu FM (Uganda) and KFM (Uganda).
The nominees are:
Jax Panik (South Africa) for ‘Cigarettes and Cinnamon’
D’Banj (Nigeria) for ‘Why Me’
Naakaya (Tanzania) for ‘Mr. Politician’
JB Mpiana (DRC) for ‘Zadio Kongolo’
P Unit (Kenya) for ‘Una‘
Toniks (Uganda) for ‘Beera Nange’
Ofori Amponsah Featuring Samini (Ghana) for ‘Odwo’
Nigerian D’Banj’s nomination brings his total nominations to four, while Ghanaian artist Samini is now recognised in two categories, as featured artist on Ofori Amponsah’s ‘Odwo’ and in his own right for ‘Best Live Performer’.
The Listener’s Choice winner will be announced at the Awards in Abuja, Nigeria on Saturday, 22 November 2008.
In other news, R&B star Kelly Rowland, SA rock outfit Cassette and Nigeria's Asa (nominated in the Best Female category) have been confirmed as performers on the night.
