The 1st Africa Music Awards (AMA) event is tipped to be the biggest African party, exploding with the exquisite continent’s rich music and culture on Saturday 27 December 2008 at the stunning 1930’s fashionable venue; TROXY (490 Commercial Road, London E1). Within its niche, the AMA will aim to expose the incredible richness of African music and culture, showcasing the breath-taking performances from the Continent’s music giants and top musicians. The event is expected to be broadcasted to over 10million viewers worldwide, and 2,500 live audiences consisting of the crème de la crème of society.
Being the first of its kind in the whole of Europe, the AMA Organisation and its partners are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a memorable and historic event, as we celebrate and recognise our achievers in the field of African music. The awards are decided by independent panels consisting of some of the music industry’s most distinguished practitioners. This is in five categories, with eight additional awards decided by the general public.
We have a host of high profile presenters and comedians guiding you through the night. Music Moguls, Film Legends, Fashion gurus, and Football stars, will all participate in the event's presentations, making it truly the most glamorous African event in the UK for the year 2008.
Feedback from the communities indicates that Africans in the UK just can't wait to experience this glitter event, with its A-List musicians from Africa, the UK and Caribbean. The anticipation of being a part of this memorable event settles in as the event draws closer. When asked why he established the Africa Music Awards in the UK/Europe, this is what Eric McKaiser – CEO and Founder - had to say:
“African music is the eternal bond between millions of others like me and our roots; motherland Africa. Over the many years, I have observed that it is the magnificent medium of African music which is an enduring and lovable link between Africans in the Diaspora and their folks back home. Be they following the latest stars and songs, or cherishing old classics. The music lovers in the UK and elsewhere are in close touch with the industry’s happenings in Africa.
By staging Africa Music Awards in the UK, African entertainers will get the opportunity to acquire global exposure on the greater level, whilst audiences get the opportunity to see and party with Africa's top performers, most of whom are so far unknown outside of Africa. Among its many aims, the AMA will raise funds to support HIV/AIDS Orphans in Africa.”
Voting begins on 1st December 08.
