When I got the invite to go for the SCD finale, there was no way I was gonna say NNNOOOOOO after sulking that I missed the TVSA hookup. I grabbed the opportunity and thanked my gal for an overly-welcomed evening out. The show was fabulous with Rob getting a score of 40/40 twice in the evening and made Tyrone shed a tear.
During the ad breaksOk, I was too excited about going and I believed I was the date, not on duty, that I didn’t take notes for a blow-by-blow article so I’ll write what I remember and hopefully Shugs will fill in the missing pieces later too.
The show beginsIan is still in top form for the show. His commentary is hilarious and when he danced onto the stage when the show began, you could feel a sense of earnest enjoyment coming from him. Sandy was in a red possibly-gorgeous dress, I think “possibly” because she has done the one shoulder thing a number of times this season so if the dress had no shoulder thing- it would have been perfect. But it till looked stunning on her! Her commentary was shocking at times with the adlib to break part where she said she is “going to dry my ears” hai! I loved the fact that she didn’t overly giggle during Ian’s comments.
The three finalists began by doing their first dances. Cindy was great but found the
bare necessities song a bit odd and bare for a finale – the dance seemed a bit playful for me, like two peeps fooling around and not competing for a title. Tessa was dead-set on winning, her dance was full of passion and she seemed to enjoy herself. Rob and Mary rocked so much I was speechless when they finished. Then Tyrone cried and I wanted to applaud!
Cindy leaves the buildingCindy got eliminated after we were entertained by a Chrimassy-dressed dance troupe. I loved the routine (choreographed by Ian) but was seriously worried about the amount of “unsightly” hair episodes we have seen this season. Salome hadn’t shaved her underarms in one episode and on this final episode one of the dance troupe people danced with an open top and his chest looked like a rugged carpet. Huuuuuuuuuu!!
Can you see the chest carpet?During the hour break, we were served finger foods – tjo! Last year they served a fully cooked meal. Ranta e wele! (The rand has fallen!) Anyway, Shugs and I took lots of photos (more on my facebook profile) with the guests and asked the celebs that came who they supported. Last year’ winner Emmanuel wanted Rob to win. Eish! I forgot to ask who Muvhango King Azwi and Tau/Pheko are supporting… But they were there.
Lesego, Seiphemo and Shugs
King Azwi, Lelo and King's friend... LOL!
Emmanuel and FriendsKhutso; Hlubi’s former partner until this episode, was also mingling. When we snooped about when Hlubi and he would be dancing, he said he wasn’t able to since he had family things to attend to so he wasn’t able to do the last dance… Mmmmmhhhhhh! We sssoooooo did not believe you, khutso, even after trying to explain how the championships, other commitments and your two year old child needed you, we STILL did not believe you. Anyway, it was very nice to see you smiling and chatting to everyone.
Khutso, Lesego and SalomeTaurus, our fellow blogger Gugu, was chatting with friends when we got back to the studio floor and we rudely interrupted to get photos and hugs! Tjo! We were out of order but they didn’t seem to mind… He thanked TVSA supporters. Eish! Mghobi you need to blog maan! I miss your blog…
The left-footsThe show traced back the past couple of weeks and the fallen “left-foots” as they came to dance the last dance. Everyone moved better than the times they were on the show, I think. Shugasmackx danced waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy better than when he was still on the show. Ian mentioned the dress “gift” that Robyn got from Adil after their dance. Aunty J still moved slowly but looked comfy this time around. Hlubi had a new partner and a dance routine that rocked! Anele also diva’d the dance floor with a disco-light inspired dress – Hey, those gals can move! Zorro blogzilla was still stiff but also looked like he was enjoying himself. GarthC moved me to tears with a beautiful Beauty and the Beast dance… It was very very very nice.
Mango Groove’s Claire Johnston sang
Special Star and (what was that song again?) while two teeny-weensy tiny cute kids couples danced…. Those kids were wow! I think the next season should be a kids version of SCD… ex yo-tv presenters can come on that show and rebuild some of their tv careers. Claire announced that Mango Groove’s album is soon coming out! It is called the
Essential something or other…
The winnersThe moment we had been waiting for came and Rob was announced the winner, Tessa and Grant cried. Eish! It was just emotional! Tessa really wanted this! Grant thanked his wife (our fellow blogger Anzo) who looked smashing in a hott hottt hottt hot-pants. I did not see any baby fat that she blogged about previously… Anzo later told me that this was his first season on SCD – great work Grant!! Tjo! First time and you go all the way to the finals! We will be looking out for you in the next season!
Rob was elated and thanked his grandmother… like I said
“IT WAS VERRRYYYY EMOTIONAL!” Mary was ssssooooooo happy! After 4 seasons she finally held the title and she deserved it! Their hard-work and choreography was superb and gaaad! They had gotten how many full scores of 40/40 on the show?!!! As the show ended with the cast dancing to
I had the time of my life I was feeling every single note because I also felt like it…
I HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE!!!
The press conf was for the two finalists – Anele asked if Rob and Mary could just share the prize money with all the other celebs. Mmmmhhhhhmmmm! There is a prize money! Eish! Jax! *shaking head* you were right! So sorry I didn’t get a chance to meet you. Mary said the choreography was driven by Rob’s passion to push himself further when dancing and that helped her push them to greater heights during practice, he was a good listener and did as he was guided. She loved it!
Tessa promised to get her back checked tomorrow as she has been self-medicating to avoid having to be told she could not keep on dancing. TessTess, gal, take care and we hope that back is not serious. Like I said to GarthC, DO NOT KILL YOURSELF TO ENTERTAIN US! WE will move on and find another celeb to ooogle but your family can't find another you... GAL, GET SOME REST TOO!! The celebs got some kind of certificate for their participation. The SABC Marketing lady announced that the show was a huge success and thanks all the media support because they even made 10 million rands profit. Ahem *clears throat* I hope 2 Million is given to the official web partner; TVSA!!!
There was an after-party which I missed because I had to dash back to my royal family – King K, Prince K and Princess K! And as always – I send my gratitude to everyone that made this night possible; my family for embracing my dreams and letting me dash away from them for this, Brown Shuga for inviting me, Tashi and Luke for this wonderful website and TVSA!!!!
And YAH, I am peeved that TVSA was not mentioned last night! LOL!
