Yesterday (16 December 2008) Idols 5 tuned into Camps Bay beach to call hopefuls to the auditions that officially start today.
The show's been on different Cape Town beaches since Saturday and today the auditions officially begin at the River Club (in Observatory).
I've been dying to go to the beach since summer arrived so it was a perfect excuse to go through for us to celebrate the holiday and snoop out what was what.
I took pics, listened to some singing, got hysterical at the torture and chatted to auditioning peeps and others who were passing in and around the action:
Weather Report
(Been thinking, if no-one's gonna friggin' hire me for the weather, I'm hiring myself!)
It was
the most groovacious day - 28/29 degrees. A fresh South Westerly breeze (I made that up - there was a slight breeze, no clue what direction). Birds were flying, no cloud in the sky and there was crazy-ass gridlock on the road surrounding the beach.
Establishing Shotts
Kara-oh-no!-ke
The set-up of things was that passers-by could sing a Karaoke song on stage that they chose from an Idols book - as a rehearsal for the auditions type thing. Everyone who sang got a goodie bag with:
1x sunscreen
1x Idols frisbee
1x Idols beach ball
1x Reality CD for those who sang well. Titles I spotted included: Jennifer Hudson, Andriette (I know, I also couldn't remember who she is) and NKD - the all-girl group formed by Idols finalist Deidre Visser.
Salwa, who sang Oh Carol
Some notable bathongs!
My best: Felicia
She spent
ages choosing her song and when she finally sang she got this response from onlookers:
*Idols Theme Tune*
New host Liezel van der Westhuizen was in the action speaking to hopefuls, signing autographs, filming inserts etc.
Beefcake Sightings
Werner and Cajuan
Joseph
Best Singer Heard
Shafika
It turned out she was too young to officially audition though.
Best Beach Gear
*Quick flashes with whammy music ending with the final winning pic*
Other Vibey Onlookers
The Mosavil family - everything you can think of, they had it with them - including a hubbly bubbly
As I was headed for a swim a seal caused pandemonium and sent everyone out of the water - it dived under before I could get to my cam. It arrived on the scene, obviously heard the singing and disappeared pronto.
Haha - sorry I couldn't resist - once everyone was back in the water I went for a swim and as I was drying off, this was my view for about half an hour.
The Cape Town auditions are happening for three days, thereafter they move to Durban at the start of the New Year before going to Jozi.
