How can the Government hospital turn someone down who needs treatment because they are over 60.  I never considered 60 to be too old.  What is happening with our Government hospitals.  Do they expect you to just go home and wait to die.....

In June 2008 my husband Terry was diagnosed with diabetes in conjunction with high blood pressure, on the 6/10/2008 he was diagnosed with kydney Failure and we were advised to get to family and close to Pretoria , this was done by the Murchison Government Hospital in Port Shepston as there was no Dialysis there and we were told if we did not it was doubtfull that Terry would see December. we relocated to our daughter and her husbands home and immediately went to book into the Kalafong Government Hospital and after a full day spent we were then informed that it was Government Policy, they could treat him if he was 60yrs and under but being 63yrs he does not qualify for any Kydney treatment (dialysis). We got him into the Jakaranda Hospital and within two weeks there was a marked improvement and he has not looked back. I am at the moment trying to raise funds to assist in keeping him alive. We have joined a Medical aid but we cannot claim for a year, hence we are trying our best to limp through this year with regards the payment of Dialysis, Eprex red blood cell injections, doctors and blood tests and quite honestly we not sure which way to turn but we are not giving up

That is so sad to read, but at least now you managed to find alternative and probably better care for him.

Will keep you both in my prayers and may God grant you the strength to take care of him and know that He would never give you something you will never be able to handle.
