TakalaniIt means “be happy” in Tshivenda, but there is little evidence of happiness at Takalani, Soweto’s first home for the mentally disabled. In the late nineties conditions deteriorated to the point where closure was considered. Then a saviour arrived in the form of Lynn van Rooyen.
But now the award-winning director of the home is herself under suspicion. Carte Blanche investigates allegations of abuse, fraud and unexplained deaths.
