Politicking at work

So I'm writing this article with some bit of anger and some resentment. Sorry it's so long but I had to explain in detail

I have been with this company for 10 months now and there were politics within the company(they were obvious). I made nothing of this as I thought that every company has it's own issues and because I come from worse, much worse.

Things went along fine and I was told(by my manager) that I had a personality problem and that  dont interact well with the staff. I obviously disagreed but promised the manager I would work on my personality. Things went on well and found myself working very well with my colleagues and the bosses liked me. I never suck up or kiss ass(I hate that), we already have someone who is doing that.

The past month, me and several other people in the company noticed that there were things happening which we were unsure about. The cleaning lady was a target. The company started finding reasons to get rid of her and other people in the company. So the cleaning lady is a South African but her mother is Zimbabwean(she worked in SA as a nurse and had kids here). The company now made claims that the cleaning ladies ID was fake and that she bribed people to give an ID. This is of course a lie as she was born South African and does not have a Zim id or birth certificate.

As these reasons could not be backed by proof of fake ID's and bribery they had to change their story. They then said all the people in the company had laid complaints about her and that she had not been cleaning well. This lady had been here for close to 2 years now. My concerns are if she has been here this long why are they only complaining now? And why is the ID story coming up now?

They then decided that they are going to make her sign a written warning for not doing her job properly. She refused because she had not been given a verbal warning. They then gave her a cheque telling her to leave immediately as she has been paid out for the next 3 months.

That was it. Other things are happening which suggest that certain people are leaving, and with people always confiding in me (which I have tried to stop), I have realised that they too are on the way based on what they have told me( their fears and other things). no one in this company is safe. We are all on our toes because if you piss the bosses mother off(she recently started working here nad she is blamed for all this) you are next in the firing line.

What i would like to know from you bloggers is
1. Have you ever been in a position where you felt like people are conspiring against you and what have you done about it
2. Are there any office politics going on in your office and how do you deal with it.
3. Do you have any experiences in which you felt like you cannot handle the politicking in the company
4. If you were the cleaning lady, how would you react to this?
5. What in your opinion, causes office politics?
6. Why is it that people in companies sell each other out? We believe that certain people sell each other out to management. And it's always petty things.

Lets talk work......

If l were the cleaning lady, l will definetely take the case up to the CCMA, this is unfair dismissal and discrimination to me. She must not let it go like that.

l am the only black person in the office and l sit at the front door alone, so its impossible to notice anything being planned against you.

With us black people, l believe we sell each other out to give opportunities to our relatives and sometimes its just jealousy and hate. l don't know about other races though.

There are 2 blacks at my office BigM. And the cleaning lady.
They also employed a black dude on temp. He will be leaving soon.

It's tough. I think the fact that the bosses mom works here (she is above 60 years old and her daughter is about 43) makes it harder for  us

Eish people...lets accept that black people will always suffer no what. I work in a kaak place full of white people who take black people as *bleep!*. Lets accept that as much as we can be educated, have them qulaifications and degrees....a black man will always be black. The worst part is that recently there has been this Indian guy who (i wish could realise that he forms part of the black population) has been selling out black people. He implies that we are untrustworthy and that we can sell confidential information to black clients....

I am also angry coz i hate being judged...especially for who I am.

The other thing i have noticed is that black people will never be successful as white men coz of:
1. Black men are jealous of each other..For example...how many black people develop competition amoung their fellow brother/sisters at work places? They always want to be seen a better black person that his brother/sister. Guess what? White men dont do that. They help each other to develop. they dont compare what they have with what other fellow whites have and make them their enemies. Instead...they work together to achieve common goals. They motivate each other.
2. I agree that some people will make sure that a fellow brother losses a job in order for a friend/relative to come in that place....What is that?

But its not something that we can change now coz even back in the apartheid days...black men were the "impimpis" and not white men...

"Xobho is nou kwaad" is this blog about you alone?

The other thing i have noticed is that black people will never be successful as white men coz of: [thats generalisation right there,]
1. Black men are jealous of each other..For example...how many black people develop competition amoung their fellow brother/sisters at work places? They always want to be seen a better black person that his brother/s ister. Guess what? White men dont do that.[they do we just not exposed to it alot- pple are the same, the only difference is skin color] They help each other to develop. they dont compare what they have with what other fellow whites have and make them their enemies. Instead...they work together to achieve common goals. They motivate each other. [kwakwakwakwakwa assuming this can be bliss]
2. I agree that some people will make sure that a fellow brother losses a job in order for a friend/relative to come in that place....What is that?

anyway.....GML i hope you can contact that lady and inform her of her rights, she should go to CCMA and let legal action take its course, she has a family to feed am sure.......

There is always office politics but its work-related and aint personal. We dont share personal info and its good that way. The less we know about each other the more a good working relationship we will maintain.
