Confirmed! M-Net Series has officially announced a January 2010 premiere of the new South African women's talk show called Absolute Woman, to be hosted by radio personality Melanie Bala.
At the beginning of September TVSA blogger Ms Dee
broke a story about both the show and the host after scooping goss and details via Facebook. At the time the show had the working title of For Women, By Women which has now changed to Absolute Woman.
The format of the show: a weekly talker, with a live studio audience, covering topics that interest and impact on women. Some of those in the pipeline include body image, obsessions (like hoarding), troubled love relationships (emotional abuse etc), botox and demonstrations of things such as pole dancing.
Word is that the tone will be a mix of light, laughter, tears and entertainment.
The official release about it says that the show will be the first local weekly series to be broadcast on M-Net Series - which isn't so.
Jacob's Cross made it's Season 1 debut as a weekly on M-Net Series in January 2007 and Survivor Africa and South Africa have also both been broadcast on the channel. Still, it is a first for a local all-girl talker.
Melanie, who's a news anchor and contributor on The Avenue on Metro FM, says about the show: "“Absolute Woman speaks to me and where I am in my life now. I am an information junkie, I love reading and am very curious about why people do the things they do.
"I'm also a little bit of a feminist, and love to challenge the status quo when it comes to how women are seen in the world. This platform offers the opportunity to share information, learn more about something you might not know too much about and accept all women, as they are, flaws and all.”
The show premieres on Wednesday, 6 January 2010.
