First up and very late - I heard about it on Wednesday but didn't have a chance to organise spilling: news about Bow Wow's concert coming up on Friday night (11 December). He's putting in a once-off concert at Bassline in Newtown.
Here's the release about it:
The once-off Channel O-supported event takes place at the Bassline in Newtown on Friday 11 December and will see the global superstar supported by some big name South African artists including TUKS, PRO and Da L.E.S. “I’d advise everyone to get their tickets because I am about to set December ablaze,” is Bow Wow’s promise to his many South African fans.Bow Wow arrived in South Africa last week to perform at the Big Brother Revolution Grand Finale, which aired on DSTV channel 198 on Sunday 6 December. Right after that he co-hosted a very special edition of YGA on Monday 7 December with Channel O’s The Twinz – a show that also saw DJ Waxxy keep the music bumping in the studio.Bow Wow is so taken with the response from his African fans that he’s now going to treat them to a live performance. As he himself admits, performing in South Africa is a long way from being discovered by Snoop Dogg at the age of five and eventually featuring on his groundbreaking Doggystyle album. After being teamed a few years later with Jermaine Dupri, Bow Wow exploded onto the music scene in 2000 with Beware of Dog, the first in a string of platinum and gold albums (he’s sold more than 10 million albums to date) that spawned six No. 1 singles and such platinum songs as “Let Me Hold You,” “Like You,” Shortie Like Mine” and “Outta My System.” He is also the Youngest Solo Rapper To Ever Hit No. 1, as recognised by the Guinness Book Of World Records. Over the years, Bow Wow has been the first rap artist of his generation to become a legitimate entertainer, excelling as rapper, stage performer and actor (The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift [2006], Roll Bounce [2005], Johnson Family Vacation [2004] and Like Mike [2002; his first movie, it grossed $35 million its first week in theaters], as well as television series “Smallville” [2006] and a recurring role on HBO’s “Entourage” [2008-09], as well as a prominent role in the film Hurricane Season with Forest Whitaker and Lil Wayne. With his latest album, New Jack City II, Bow Wow takes a quantum leap toward being viewed as rap’s best artist. “I am going to be the hottest rapper in 2009,” says Bow Wow, who in December 2008 was named by People Magazine one of the Most Beautiful People in the World. Now this Friday 11 December, South African hip hop, R&B and urban music fans get the chance to see a world-class talent in an intimate environment for one night only. Tickets are available at Computicket and Shoprite.
