It seems the year's looking
not-2009 if the latest news is anything to go by. On Friday I heard that Season 2 of
So You Think You Can Dance SA has been confirmed for a winter run on SABC1.
The season was supposed to be on last year but with the
Great SABC-cash Fiasco of '09 it never materialised.
Of course I had to ask: "Is it
really Season 2 and not a two-year old rebroadcast of Season 1??" and word from the channel is that it's definitely happening.
It's provisonally scheduled* to premiere on Saturday, 17 July at
21h00.
At first I was like,"That's a huge problem."
Saturday nights. Everyone out. No-one watching religiously.
But then I thought about it and other timeslots and perhaps it's a good thing for the type of show it is.
Last season it was on Saturdays at 18h30, which was too early to grab everyone's attention properly. Being on at 21h00 means that families will be finished everything they do in the early evening to settle to watch. Also, if it was on at 21h00 in the week it would be too late for many families.
That said, 20h00 would be much better - 'spesh when it comes to the live shows. What do you think? The schedule will obviously be going through big changes once the World Cup ends because right now Saturday nights usually have movies or soccer on in the 20h00 to 00h00 timeslot, which means that something else will surround the show. I'll keep you posted when there's more news on how things are going down.
As for what else has been confirmed to go-ahead: the Stars of Mzansi Awards will also definitely be happening - the date hasn't been confirmed yet, as will the broadcast of the 2010 SAMAs: on Saturday, 17 April 2010.
*The times and dates are provisional and could change closer to the time.
