I'm sure they are going to sing 1 song each then they will bore us ngo Yvonne Chaka Chaka singing more than 3 songs swaying her hips al over the stage. No thank you.

I will watch in the comfort of my own warm home.

My people....Music is a universal language that transcends boundaries and bond people even thousands of miles apart. You don't have to know the artists who will be performing....music touches everyone's soul.

If you do not connect to any music, you probably are losing a part of yourself

Don't get me wrong - I am super excited at this concert and hope I can get tickets to attend it however I find myself having this mmmhhhhh feeling when I realise that the Worl Cup has been hailed as an African celebration - Ke nako the tagline says but african artists are taking a backseat on such prestigious event... Why are we not pushing our AFRCAN artists and have the Americans as supporting acts to pull the crowds?

I would like to see the names of our african artists blazoooned on posters such as the likes of Lira, Papa wemba, Salif Keita, Manu dibangu, Fally ipupa, etc

If it is Africa's turn, make the Americans take a backseat...

check out this video and article - Is is really Africa's turn? where is the SA flag on that video or are we not part of the world cup - ARE WE NOT THE HOSTS!!

I agree with you Sego but I do not want to go watch Yvonne.

By all means let Africans perform your Lira's, Thandiswa and the likes.

This is the world cup and not the African cup therefore you need the international stars. Remember this will beamed to the whole world and not in Africa only. Anyone who remembered the Germany world cup? Other the Germans being professional when it comes to time keeping, the opening was a complete bore.

When it comes to the beating of drums, I hate it and it drives me nuts. I hope it will be less of that nonsense. Please don’t tell me that it is the African thing crap. I’ve had enough of those drums.

@ segololo: Name any African artist that will pull the crowd, just one.

there's no harm in trying, realist... there really isn't any harm in trying to change the mindset that africans really wanna be americans...

If anyone was at the Orlando stadium during the Pirates/ Celtic game (telkom knockout), you would have heard/seen the guy who had the drum. He just made the atmosphere even nicer with people moving to the drum.

but ke it shuold not be done for an opening match ceremony.
The confed cup ceremony was just horrible. I couldnt not even believe thay had Yvonne Chaka Chaka singing something we couldnt hear. Urrrrrrrrg.

I think we are fforgetting that this is a FIFA event not SAFA, we are only a vessel, so the manufacture calls the shots.

Vesa

Dankie, BA....we are only hosting! FIFA is the one calling the shots

I thought I was the only person who's had enough of Yvonne Chaka Chaka. lost all respect for her after her little stunt at the Saftas. I know she is still trying to keep her name in lights but sometimes too much exposure can ruin you. She is a legend and respect icon of this industry but she needs to take a back seat for some time. You dont see Aretha Franklin hogging the spotlight from kids at the MTV awards.
