Life Ekasi

So there I was izolo visiting a friend After a stressful day at work, when i get there i found my friend tired as hell after being busy with house chores since kusile. and a thought hit us.....why dont we get drunk-high-stoned-peop dronk-sloshed. and then we went to buy weed, ciggerettes and a few ngudu's ze hansa nama simbachips ne biltong and then we watched a Movie Hangover. after an hour watching the movie drinking and smoking..we were so high/drunk we were up there in the skies because we even forgot about the movie and started talking up udodi nje. i must say i really enjoed every minute of it i even went to bed way after midnight, thank God I still managed to wake up fresh in the morning to go to work.

so that got me thinking How much I love my life elokshini. I thought i about a couple of times before ukuthi if i were given the chance to move to ema Surburbs, emaflethini, or kuma town houses would i Go there....and my answer always has and always will be NO. I just love i life yase kasi for me to move to Posh surburbs would just be torture....yes torture imagine sleeping on a saturday night or when you go outside for the maslapi cigarette and all you hear is Dogs barking...qabanga jo. I want to hear what i am used to hearing....cars driving by with the music banging strong, people walking on the streets poep dronk, some random girl screaming nje, that rand gun shot or ama khrikethi(u never know). all in all i like hearing all these sounds that remind me ukuthi i should not be sleeping izintanga zami zi heva i fun out there.

why do I love Ikasi lami?. well its simple...ekasi we get to buy ibhiya very cheap R8.00 for ingudu where as edrobheni you pay i R15 for i dumpie, for R20 ekasi you can buy i kota ye R7 ne litha ye coldrink R8 nama loose draw ayi 3 ne chappies edrobheni ungadla ini nge R20?? maybe i pie. elokshini you get to walk around at night kube ngathi use paris ngoba people are still walking around ngathi its still 12 midday. edrobheni kuthule kuthe tu estradeni by 6 oclock entambama.

ekasi you just go visit your neighbour withou making an appointment, emaflethini i must be buzzed in if ngiyafuneka, buzzed out if they dont want to see me(too much privacy) nowonder abantu bafa baze babole emaflethini. I also love the fact that everything you want to buy itholakala eduzani..if you dont get it at joe's spaza shop you just go to emashop kandlovu. and remember while walking to the shops you see people, you talk to people, you get your latest on umgosi wase kasi. you see amathende and ask who ever ohlangana naye ukuthi whats happening at that house..elani leliyathende....in a nut shell ekasi you get to be updated with the happenings of your sorroundings. Bfwethu ziyakhipha ekasi like it or not. the only reason i go to edrobheni is because i work there...apart from that...we have everything ekasi, we have malls, we have upmarket longes and pubs, we have sports grounds, we speak the lingo, we have all types of characters i mean we even have abelungu living there now. on a sunday..tsho tsho tsho uzobona how diverse we are uzobona amazion, abomzet, izangoma, abaprofethi, izidakwa. we have abosbari elokshini servicing our shoes for way less than multiserve would have charged us.kumnandi ekasi.

whats your take on ikasi lakho?
do you still live ekasi?
why did you move out of ikas'lakho?

Don't know which kasi you're living in? Maybe you wanted to say skwatta camps like koDiepsloot maybe.

First paragraph is a turn-off for me especially if's its' coming from a lady. Maybe people are not responding because they are turned off.

Just imagine in 2010 bragging about alcohol, something that has been there as early as year 01.

Since you don't want people to post responses and air their views about your article I would then recommend you keep stuff like these on your diary & not blog about it.

Most townships have moved from this 1950's picture you're painting into a nice, quiet suburbs, please play a positive role into changing the perception that people who have never been in the townships have about them.

I mainly miss the spaza shop trip. When I need to buy bread I have to drive to the petrol station and that for me is something that gets in my nerves, which is why I bake most of the times.

I miss talking to my friend wako next door because we were the same age at home, now I am surrounded by older people and the one's opposite me are just strange. i dont even greet them, because it feels like a duty it is not natural like my friend's family back home.

Now and again, i miss ikota as well......which is why whenever I am at home I buy i-kota.

I dont miss the blaring sound of radio/gongo on Sunday morning after a good fun night with friends.

I dont miss the gossip and petty fights.

I dont miss hearing ukuthi so and so bamgwazile e-tavern.

mina Zozoe i have lived in 3 different kinds of environment, Rural areas, Township and Surburbs(sp) i love RURAL AREAS so so so so so much then Surburbs ... i didnt like township life at all .... i felt like everyone try to mendle with everyone's business...  nje so i'd rather be in rural areas where humanity is still practised, where people still care for others without expecting anything in return, where one trouble touches the whole community and everyone goes all out to lend a helping hand Or stay in Surburbs and mind my own business like everyone else.

Hhayi nonke bo goody goody, the person asked you to express the love for yo location.  SHim has expressed his and shouldn't you do so???

My take on ekasi:

I didn't grow up in a locartion mara Lord God knows I loved visiting my gran. Not because of her but the atmosphere and the  "love" of the neighnours. Waking up in the morning seeing people and being a part of their lives. Being able to walk and go visit friends whenever I felt like it. Unlike the suburbs where I had to ask ma to drive me there. I love ekasi and I miss it cos gran past away so I don't go there anymore. I go to other people's kasi's but it's not the same as the kasi that you love and know

I still love visiting them, as most of the people I know live there.

do you still live ekasi?

Nope I moved out about 3 years ago,

why did you move out of ikas'lakho?

I prefer the quieter life, and it is safer because we have security at the gate.
I travel a lot, so I can leave my house locked for a long period without worrying about anyone breaking in while I am away because my current neighbours dont get all up in my business.

whats your take on ikasi lakho?
I'm like BA, I've lived in 3 places my village (ezilalini ekhaya), loxion (Cape Town ko 4 eNewcrossroad) & town (Midrand & Pretoria). From age 0 month-16years i've seen/heard drama both my village & loxion bt i was scared. My parents were strict so i was not free 2 go whereever i wanted 2 go, i had limits. I remember my first time going ebashini e parkini. I couldnt steal my home's keys so i used the bathroom window & i got a stretch 2 prove it. And boy did i enjoy! Damn the next morning my mom knew where i was & yooooooooo i've never beaten like that in my life. So if they were not strict i think i'll b a straatmate or unontyintyi. I always  thank them 4 protecting me. So i dont have stories coz i was always indoors & i spaza shop sasise next door & my mum would count i minutes. The only thing we used to do is playing cards, i used to enjoy that one.
do you still live ekasi?
No bt i still luv it .
why did you move out of ikas'lakho?
Eish circumstances sana & the fact that i dont have any family here in GP maybe just maybe i'll b staying daar.

And who ever told you that getting high was a crime? What makes you think you are better when you dont drink? mstick the way you understand Alexandra life you must have stayed there how else would you associate what  Mawiniza said with Alex and you we Diepsloot?

Am not complaining, where else would you find (Jabulani/Maponya Mall) a woman ekuseni nje efake igusha, nomthaythi omnyama odabukile la phakathi namathanga, engafakanga ubhodisi izincence zizilengela zihleli phezu komkhaba, eqgoke istomach out izipejeje zihleli ngaphandle.

Rates and taxes are cheap to those who are paying. Problem though is the noise, the rubbish that is all over, engineering company in a township house and the slaughtering for functions. Money for socializing goes a long way since most of the stuff required for socializing is cheap.

The others I rather not say…

whats your take on ikasi lakho?
beziwa ekasi lami.  I grew up in Killarney (Soweto). Amangwinya and kota are the two things I miss most.

do you still live ekasi?
No.  But I spend my weekends there.  Still go to church ekasi and visit my mom.

why did you move out of ikas'lakho?
After leaving my mom's house, I bought myself a house e Dobsonville x3.  Now the traffic to get to the freeway was becoming an issue.  I had to leave the house ekuseni just to get to Houghton ngo 9am.  Secondly,  I did not want my child kwi transport (a story for another day).  That meant I have to take her to and from school.

My neighbours - I would hear them screaming at each other ekuseni, mind you nge weekend.  I could not wake up nge weekends even if I wanted to.  When I looked for a place kwi Burbs, I made sure that it is not another journey for me to go visit my mom.

Surburbs life - I don't like the body corporate ntoni ntoni so communal leaving does not work for me.  If I want to paint my house red outside, that should be my decision.  I pay the rent.  Hence I ended up buying a house instead of townhouse, cluster, flat.

Interesting!!! I live and work elokishini myself....da workplace is not far so I walk. I spent my first 15 years ezilalini, it was nice then but now it is boring. The most boring thing about ilali is that the town is far and da transport is scarce. If you miss the morning bus then you will have to wait for the next available hike which might come after 2 hours. Akuna life ezilalini.....people sit ecaleni kobuhlanti talking nonsense, smoking boxer.

I enjoy lokshin life.....things are cheap and abantu bayabhekelana. If I am short of something like ityuwa....then I can go to umakhelwane, the downlow though is the noise....blaring music.

A couple of months back I saw myself in Alex and I ended up ndilala emkhukhwini(ngenxa yokuthanda izinto) for the first time in mylife. It was an awesome experience though I couldn't sleep as it was hot and amagundwane akhona ayadakasa kwaye awoyiki bantu.

I would love to stay kuma surbubs....maybe when I am in my forties....at the moment I am enjoying lokshin life

arg MaWiNiZa man...u got me all nostalgic ...now i miss Lecowza as the little ones call it.....
Spaza (all 5 of them in one little block).....lol..yeah the random girl screaming at the oddest time...dicricket..mama and the 5 neighbours and how they yell and talk in the morning..i swear my mom does it so we can wake up and she has the aquickiest voice...ahhh...:-)....the guys ko khoneng who chill untill late hours, they start selling mashomshom le malekere and later they do wayward staff, i miss them to bits coz they are real even though they are hustling shem and its hard...

:-)

whats ur take on ikasi lakho?
Love it...its not as noisy as you described,..its actually getting depressingly quite this days..but i love it still.

do you still live ekasi?
As long as my family is still there, my room is still there at both my mom humble crib,...i consider myself to still live there....even if sale ke eya gae ka chreesmas..:-(...duty calls...

why did you move out of ikas'lakho?
Greener pastures charle.....someone mentioned that they needed to grow coz life is pretty much static there if you have big out of the box dreams. Sad this is that even though go nale development nyana here and there, the people you leave behind are a step even more behind when you go back home.

I could live at my house forever if my company had a branch in polokwane...i love my home....

Itjo! in this day & age, there are still people who judge others by the contents of their fridges? it's so 1900, yawn! mostly people who live alone do weekly grocery shopping & buy only what they require at tht time, as opposed to pushing a trolley full of polonies, and and and.
